Excellent Winter Walking/Hiking Boots

I have only had these boots for a few days but thus far they have proved to be very good winter walking/hiking boots. They are warm (with temps in 20-30 F range) but not bulky, light and agile with good arch support, and reasonably attractive. My primary usage is a daily walk on and off paved trails or city streets (where sidewalks are uneven or non-existent) in cold and/or snowy weather. Since I bought them there has been quite a bit of snow and these boots have been good walking through fresh snow, semi-melted/refrozen crud, as well as on slick icy sections. I also plan to use them for snow shoeing in the near future.

Truly waterproof

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love these boots, my feet stay completely dry while walking in standing water, rain, heavy dew, a shallow creek, etc. Light weight for daily hikes. Good tread and traction too! I sized up 1/2 a size and usually wear 2 pairs of medium socks.

Amazing comfort and great fit!

Have been searching for a comfortable boot for snowshoeing that has a wide enough toe box for my Altra-wearing feet. Tried these on in the store and they are like butter, comfy but sturdy. Size 9 was too small and size 10 was too large. Since REI carries whole sizes only, I ordered size 9.5 from North Face and they are perfect. Two other handy features: 1) the large pull loops on the heels, and 2) laces are not slippery and stay tightened how I want, and don't come untied (like Keens, which are usually my go-to boots). Love these boots!

shoes are bad but NF customer service is worse

Wore these shoes one time and already you can see they are falling apart. In addition they dig into your side heal area. I wore these shoes for short walks to break in but after a ten mile walk I was limping back to my car. Unfortunately I did not buy from REI because they did not have my size. I tried to contact North Face three separate times and once I was basically hung up on after I mentioned the lack of quality and the other two times I never hard back from them. There is zero customer service by them and these shoes are terrible. I did not get these from a promotion like the other reviews. DO NOT BUY!

Great hiking boot!

Bought this boot for a trip to Norway and was looking for a warm, waterproof, lightweight, comfortable boot (in black) for walking/hiking. This one did the trick. It provided great support and comfort for my narrow feet!

Nice and warm, and lightweight

I am a day hiker with weak ankles so have always worn relatively heavy backpacking boots my entire life. I was looking for some insulated boots for winter hiking, and tried out several different types. These were pretty comfortable right away and incredibly lightweight compared to my uninsulated hiking boots. I was able to shrink my crampons down to fit them, although I might actually need a smaller size of microspikes to fit these since they are so much sleeker than my other boots. The under foot cushioning holds up well while hiking. So far, I am really liking these and they make me feel light on my feet! I no longer need to wear 2 pairs of socks in the winter. Regular "full cushion" socks work fine in these. I've used these for my last 10 hikes. I live in the northeast, so there's snow and ice on the trails, but the weather has been warmer than usual this year so I've been wearing traction with these for only about 3 weeks.

Lightweight, Great traction, Feet stay dry!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use these boots hiking New England mountains in the winter. Great traction on packed, powder snow, and icy terrain. Lightweight for sure. Works perfect with microspikes and snowshoes. I sized up a whole size as boots seem a bit narrow, and wiggle room for toes are important to me. As far as insulation goes, while wearing 1 pair wool socks, toes started off a bit cold but did warm up soon into hike. Feet also stayed dry during a 3 1/2 hour trek through snow and some ice. Some hot spots did develop on bottoms of my feet, but I am uncertain if this was due to boots or micro spikes. Will have to go on more adventures to determine, and maybe swap out innersoles with curexSoles. Overall, great hiking boots so far.

LOVE these boots!

I love these boots. They are comfortable right out of the box. I always size up a half size in athletic footwear. Sadly, REI does not carry Women's size 10.5 and the 11's are too big so I will be returning them. I ended up ordering directly from The North Face and the 10.5's ar3e a perfect fit.
