Best Kånken ever.

Bought roughly a year ago (ochre) and I've been impressed by how much stuff I can carry. 16inch MacBook Pro, cable box, sunglasses, wallet, organizer, a change of clothes, the mini cooler, iPad, Kindle, umbrella, water bottle, rain jacket, etc. Literally, everything I can think of can somewhat fit inside this backpack. Using it against a waxed jacked will permanently stain the back part, that's for sure. No matter how hard I try to wash it, it just won't come clean. The other parts (to my surprise) are still generally pristine, despite of the very stain-prone color I chose.

Laptop size misconception

I just ordered this laptop because it can hold a 17 inch laptop. All of the negative reviews I’ve read about it not being able to hold a 17 inch laptop reference dimensions that are L x W, which calculate to 19 inches in diagonal! That is the dimension that should be considered when thinking this bag should hold a 17 inch unit. All screen sizes are specified by diagonal, including televisions, I don’t think the company is at fault here Unfortunately, there’s no other way I can comment on this common misconception I’ve seen In these reviews. Fingers crossed that my 17 inch diagonal laptop fits properly because everything else about this backpack seems ideal for my needs..

Could be perfect except for one major flae.

Five stars for the 20 litre size, square shape, placement of pockets and quality of the material. Still unique among backpacks despite the hype. The square shape really makes this very easy to pack and it amazing how much stuff you can fit in it. However. Minus three stars for the lack of ergonomic shoulder straps. The improved straps of the Kånken Laptop is still light years behind the competition. You can easily find a backpack from another brand at one third of the price or less that has more ergonomic and comfortable shoulder straps. Unfortunately Fjällräven doesn't have any other models that both has the right size, square shape and comfortable shoulder strap. It would be truly fantastic if Fjällräven could launch a versionof the Kånken Laptop with truly ergonomic shoulder pads. Just do it Fjällräven! Every Kånken owner in the world is gonna buy another one!

Fits sooo much, awesome for travel

I have the 17" laptop Kånken in frost green. The laptop compartment fits my Alienware X15 R1 (14.16" x 10.91 " x 0.654") (259.70 mm x 277.25 mm x 16.30 mm) while it's in a laptop sleeve. Any 15" laptop + sleeve will fit. I imagine laptops up to 17" might fit, albeit very snug. The laptop compartment has padding on all sides, the surface against your back, between the laptop compartment and the main compartment, and the edges around the zipper and bottom. It has reinforced bottom corners in the compartment, which feels like plastic bumpers under the fabric to protect against bumps. I love having the large main compartment and being able to zip almost all the way down. Makes it super easy for packing. The backpack is awesome for travel and carrying light to moderate weight belongings. I used this as my main bag during a 2 week roadtrip and it was all I needed. It's also somehow large yet compact that I use it as my (very economical) personal item on flights. Fully packed, it fits under the seat in front of me on airplanes. The laptop straps have reinforced padding compared to the standard Kånken. The single side pocket still sucks-- no elastic or anything, does not stretch out to accommodate most water bottles. Because the side pocket fabric is non-stretch Vinylon-F and basically flat against the backpack, it can only accommodate small and thin items. You would have to get a specially designed super skinny water bottle or pack the main compartment light enough that whatever goes in the side pocket would bulge into the main compartment, intruding on your laptop or full sized notebooks etc. Fjallraven has a water bottle pocket expansion accessory which is around $20. I bought and tried it, found it bulky and annoying because it didn't sit still while I moved around. Trying to take my water bottle out of the pocket accessory would drag the accessory out of the pocket. It's currently collecting dust in my junk drawer. The main cons I can think of: - Not great for carrying very heavy stuff. The shoulder straps tend to dig in. - Not great for lots of sweating. Their proprietary Vinylon-F fabric is very durable but not breathable. It gets hot and during the summer, I found myself frequently holding the backpack away from my back to allow airflow. - Side pocket doesn't accommodate water bottle or bulky items unless you sacrifice interior compartment space Otherwise, it's a great backpack for school! The cross strap design is great at distributing weight along the back so it feels like a lighter load. It's gotten me through college, holding my 15" laptop, an iPad, a few notebooks, my lunch and water bottle in the main compartment. More than that and the weight causes strain on the shoulder straps. I'm aware Fjallraven makes a shoulder strap reinforcement accessory, but I'm not sure if it is compatible with the Kånken laptop model. Now I use it for work to carry notebooks, lunch, and change of clothes. For hiking and carrying heavier loads, I would suggest other backpacks.

Lasted a bit more than a year

I bought this for my son to use in college. He enjoyed it for a bit more than a year. but then the zipper broke off and couldn't be re-attached. I would expect something in this price range to last a lot longer than that

Tear

I am disappointed with this backpack. For a brand that claims resilience in products, a critical seam ripped after 6 months. I got this expecting to use the backpack for at least 5 years, but now I have to get expensive repairs done on an expensive backpack. Thoroughly disappointed. The function is great, the square shape is nice and the shoulder straps are fine, in my opinion. But a backpack shouldn't fall apart when the company claims the products last.

17” Kanken Backpack

After having difficulty with another backpack giving me severe headaches, when fully loaded for work. I switched to this 17” Kanken laptop bag and I’m so pleased I did. Everything feels weighted properly. The separate compartment for laptops is such a good idea. And the side pockets are great, I can easily fit my water bottle in. I find the straps very comfortable and no more headaches, which is a bonus!

I bought this bag in 2019 for my eighth grade school year and it has been so amazing and sturdy, I'm only now replacing it for my second semester of college. It perfectly fits my laptop and papers in the back compartment and the main compartment has room for everything I could possibly need. It's my go to backpack for overnight trips, it's my favorite carry-on for planes, and I use it every day for school.

The Perfect backpack!

I bought this bag one week ago. I had another kanken backpack (the classic one, it was too little for my pc so I needed one bigger) and It is perfect! I decided to buy from the same brand. After a week of use I’m in love with this backback. It’s very big, so it can hold a lot of stuff. I can’t feel the weight on my shoulders and back, perfect! It’s simple!!! The best!! Love it!!! For me it’s Perfect!

Can’t get away from using this backpack

This is my every day carry. I have a bit of medical stuff I need to carry around and then I have young children. I never have to stress about fitting everything I need because 20l is more than enough. The laptop pocket is super nice. I use it for my kindle and/or phone when I don’t need my laptop. I bought the 17” because my preferred laptop is 16” and I wanted to make sure I had enough room for it.
