Great materials, poor fit.
Only giving this two stars for the bag quality which was NICE but... 15" laptop will NOT fit... I double checked my specs after applying to return it. It's a 15" laptop... but they don't account for the laptop having any thickness so it really doesn't go in with any easy and would risk tearing the laptop slot away from the bag. The padding also won't fit with the laptop if you can even get it in. Really sad that this level of detail was not looked at before they designed the bag because otherwise I loved the bag materials and quality. So disappointed...and of course they don't make a no 2 for 17" or have the color I liked. Sad day.
Doesn't fit most waterbottles
It's durable, but not practical. Purchased for my daughter to use at college. Fits the laptop perfectly. Great! But water bottles? Forget it. We can stuff... and I mean STUFF... a standard size 21 oz Hydro Flask in it but it's VERY difficult. Causes frustration. But any wider??? No way. Not gonna happen. Tried to fit the Camalbak water bottle but it's made of plastic and we could not get it to slide in no matter how hard we tried. So only metal bottles have any chance of getting in that small side pocket. Definitely durable to hold books. But not very many. It looks cool. But functionality is not its fine point. For the price you should get a whole lot more. Very disappointed.
The BEST Bag
I bought this for the first day of school this year. Since I arrived on my first day of work I have seen at least 3 other staff members who have Fjällräven bags! Not only is this backpack super useful and the perfect size for carrying my computer and papers to and from work, but it is extremely stylish and I love every single color option.
I wish it worked for me.
I have struggled to make this bag work for me, but it is not to be. The bag has minimal pockets for storage and one of the two pockets is attached to the top of the zipper flap, meaning that if I fail to zip the pocket closed, the flap falls down and all my stuff flies out. The other pocket is attached to the front and it works pretty well. But not sufficient in size for all my small items, like a power supply, pencils, etc. I purchased two accessories, hoping they would fix my problems. There is a pocket insert for Kanken packs, but when it is inserted, it makes the side pockets much to small for any bottle. I tried purchasing the external pocket that slides into the small Kanken pockets, but that makes the bag lopsided and unwieldy and no longer as nice and sleek looking. There is simply no good way to make this pack work for me. On the upside, I did love the large main compartment. I am a college professor and I wanted a big compartment for handouts and textbooks. It was great for that. The look of the bag is also really nice. I love the classic black. However, the canvas looks dirty pretty quickly.
Great Travel Bag
I purchased this back pack for my carry on travel back pack. I've been using this backpack for overnight trips and it is SO comfortable even fully loaded. It is also very convienient that it is water resistant. I love how far open the main compartment opens, that is a nice feature. I think the leather handles and logo patch really make the bag look trendy. I also love the extra laptop compart. It fits my ipad and magic keyboard and Sony noise canceling headphones all in the back pocket. I removed the seat cushion for a little extra space. This was a great purchase that I hope to have for many years to come. I also purchased a bottle holder to make it more convenient while traveling and provide a little extra space.
Suits my needs. Is out-of-the-oridnary stylish!
Bought my Kanken a few months ago now, in the "Olive Green" colour, and hestiated on my colour choice for a while but it really grew on me. The bag is very functional, practical and easy on my back even when it's full. I use it every day and see this lasting me for years. The leather handles really give it a nice polished look and, as leather does, they're looking even nicer as time goes by. Another thing that bothered me at my initial purchase was the water bottle pockets being too small for a 21 oz Hydroflask, but know that if you keep putting the bottle in there, the pockets will eventually mold/loosen themselves slightly and it will be less of a hassle to get the bottle in there. Overall, I love my bag and recommend this to anyone :)
I love this backpack
I have the army green one and it’s the perfect color. The side pockets are small but you can fit a 16.9 fl oz water bottle in there. If I carry a hydro flask or something bigger I have to put it inside the bag. I love the laptop compartment. Honestly it is a great backpack and I do carry a lot of stuff in it and so far it still looks brand new. No back pain with this backpack. Although I do wish that the front zip pouch was bigger. I carry a lot of small items and wish that they were more easily accessible if the front pouch was bigger.
Versatile, durable and beautiful
The Dark Olive colour paired with the leather accents is so beautiful, I can’t stop looking at it. The material is durable and feels good in the hand, it has some organisation (not too much), a very secure and padded laptop compartment for my 14-inch, and has lightly padded but effective straps. I’ve used this for work, as a personal item on flights and as a day hiking bag. I’ve traveled up and down the British Isles with it and it’s making a trip to Amsterdam soon. My 400ml Nalgene fits fine in either of the external side pockets.
Beautiful Kanken Backpack!
I love this backpack because the leather trip and G-1000 fabric give it a more mature style. The I really like that the laptop compartment is not inside the main compartment, but is an additional compartment on the back of the backpack. It is generously padded with a zipper that extends down the sides to give you a wider opening to get your laptop in and out. Love the G-1000 heavy duty fabric as well, because it is waxable, making it water resistant and more durable. All in all, a stylish and functional backpack.
Worth it!
I have a mini kanken that I absolutely love and for my final year of college I treated myself to this and so worth it. I have a big laptop - an almost 16 inch Lenovo thinkpad with a extra larger battery - and it fits with some room to spare. I can also fit my notebook, laptop charger, lunch and whatever else I can think of, very roomy! It’s definitely more sophisticated than the regular kanken and it is absolutely gorgeous. I got the dusk colour. I am very happy with my purchase!
