Having ridden Speedplay for twenty years and wanting a pedal-based power meter, I was patiently hoping and then waiting for this product to come to market. I had grown up racing using heartrate as my metric for training, knowing all the while that it lags behind effort and lasts beyond effort. What I learned in my first weeks with the power meter is just how much variation in power exertion takes place during an interval.I had a bit of hesitation going with the single-side version, but I've found it to deliver tons of useful information, and not too much data to subsume the enjoyment of riding
I ordered these after realizing what a hassle and expense ($200 + shipping both ways) it would be to ship my old SRM crankset back to SRM to have the battery changed. I was slightly apprehensive about going from my trusty old Speedplay (pre Wahoo) X pedals to Zeros, but $650, minus the 20% member coupon, minus a nice gift card, plus REI's satisfaction guarantee made it a no brainer! The pedals install easily with an 8mm allen wrench, and the left pedal with the strain gauge charges quickly and easily with a USB port or a usb plug adapter. Updating firmware on the pedals was easy with the Wahoo app. The cleats can be tricky, BUT they work beautifully if you do the following: • Only tighten the installation screws down until you feel the built in torque measurement click (it's subtle but noticeable) • Adjust the float only to the minimum that you need for your riding comfort. Too much float can make it hard to disengage the cleat from the pedal. • Buy a can of PTFE lubricant and spray it on the cleat springs. It's worth the $6-7! The lubricant made my clipping in and out experience 100% better than it was without the lubricant. Power measurement is consistent and measures accurately against my smart trainer. Definitely recommend these to any Speedplay user looking to add a power meter to their bike!
The battery never fully charged even when I first got it, only to 80%. I did not mind at first because it says it is suppose to last 75 hours so 20% less who cares. Except when it only lasts 4 hours. Now most of my rides are not 4 hours long but some of them are. I addition I go on multiday rides and it only lasts the first day. I contacted customer service and they said they would send me a new one but 4 months later and multiple emails I still have not gotten a new one. Sooo disappointing especially since they are so expensive. Never will I buy Wahoo again.
I was amazed at how inaccurate this product relayed power. I usually train at 240 watts. However, on the road, the pedals registered just 199 watts. On the road, I was killing myself, trying to ride at my usual power. 😂 When I was home, I put the pedals on my Zwift Kickr. Sure enough, there was a 20% discrepancy between the readings from the pedals, and from the Kickr. I called Wahoo and they told me that the percentage inaccuracy was not out of line with its guidelines!! Unbelievable. Obviously, I returned the product.
I wouldn't have paid full price for these; but with the membership 20% off and a gift card and some REI credits, I was able to get these at a very good price AND glad that I have them now!
Install, set up and calibration was easy. Data seems to be accurate now that I have set the correct crank arm length compared to another power meter on a different bike. I have ridden with Wahoo Speedplays for a couple of years and am enjoying having power data now to help guide training and fitness.
Simply horrible!! I had these panels, professionally installed, and no matter what was tried, the cleats would not clip in to the pedals at all. Returning them immediately!
