Fantastic look and performance
This is a great fleece hoodie. I've been a fan of the grid fleece for a while since it gives me warm but also lets me ventilate heat out on the ascent when 's on a slushy winter day. For it's maiden voyage, I wore this up Mount Willard in New Hampshire on a slushy lwinter day. The second half of the hike, we got snow showers. This fleece with a t-shirt beneath was all I needed. The hood is very warm and fits very sling around my face, which will be great on stormier days. The kangaroo pocket was handy for stashing my gloves when I got too warm. The purple color is a nice vibrant addition to my color palette.
Mixed feelings on this
I like this hoodie for a lot of the reasons others have mentioned, and I wear it frequently. It is great for layering. However it definitely has some flaws: Fit is true to size but the sleeves are much too short (I don't normally have issues with this). The material is also pills horribly and is a magnet for pet hair. The fabric retains odor and stinks under my armpits - I have to spray with tide antibacterial laundry spray before each wash to get the odor out. Lastly the bottom drawstring is awkward so I cut it off. All that said, I do like this hoodie but I'm glad I only paid sale price for it.
Perfect first impressions
Just picked up this jacket and I absolutely love it! I was looking for a lightweight, breathable fleece that I could wear as an outer layer for hiking and climbing and as a mid layer for skiing, and so far the fabric feels super soft and cozy but not so thick that it would trap in too much heat. I got my usual size and the fit is perfect - great sleeve length and roominess without being too baggy. I love that you can cinch the hood when it's down to turn it into a sort of neck gaiter. My only complaint is if you have curvier hips or a bigger butt, the elastic at the bottom is a bit too tight to wear comfortably at the tunic length, but it does bunch up nicely around my hips.
Love this hoody!
I love everything about this hoody. Its insanely warm and sooooo soft and comfee. I love the deep purple color and its perfect for cold mornings in the forest and definitely comfee, warm and softy enough to sleep in on cold nights in your tent or hammock. It's got super huge front kangaroo pockets for carrying whatever little items you want. I also wear this hoody at home running errands and even to work. Its very durable and looks brand new after ever wash.
The Pick Of The Litter & Best In Breed!
This grid fleece hoodie looks better, fits better and is made of a better fleece than the cult classic from YouKnowWho. And better yet, it's available immediately from a store that treats its customers with respect. The poster below who accuses Mountain Hardwear of knocking off " YKW" ought to contact THEM and tell them to increase production and decrease their mistreatent of potential customers. The rest of us can THANK Mountain Hardwear for producing the Pick of The Litter and REI for delivering excellent customer service. My wife has one of these and intends to get the green & mulberry colorway here. She gets compliments and questions every single time she wears it; which is often, out in the woods and out on the town.
Perfect Mid-layer
I grabbed this somewhat on a whim but I am loving it! Definitely a dupe of Melanzana and credit should be given where it's due. That said I like the weight of this, it feels cozy but still light enough to act as a true mid layer. Took it on a fall backpacking trip and it was comfortable to sleep in and fit nicely under my down jacket on a cold morning. Feels just as well-made as everything I've tried from Mountain Hardwear. Excited to wear this into ski season
So flattering and cozy!
Bought this a month ago in my mountain town and ended up getting two more in different colors. It’s simply the best!
Good Melanzana alternative
Just got my tunic and have worn it a little bit. Love the bright color! It's very warm and is a good midlayer for winter sports activities. It's a little bit thicker than my Melanzana, but fits very similar. I'm 5'4" and 140lbs, athletic build with a broader shoulders, and got a size M. It's a little long on me and I could maybe get away with a S. Thinking it will shrink a bit over time though. My only big gripe, and I may exchange for another because of it, is the little locking slide on the hem bungee doesn't work. It doesn't lock at all so I can't tighten the bungee! Overall it's good for the price, though I like my Melanzana better.
Awesome hoodie!
FINALLY, there is a comparable alternative to the elusive Melanzana microgrid fleece. I own a Melly, and can tell you this is just as high quality, fabric feels the same, and it has the same features. And I love the orangey-colored one. If you are looking for a microgrid hoodie, get your hands on one of these while you can.
Love except breathability
Love this so much but am bummed on how not breathable it is. Wanted to use this as a technical layer for climbing since the hood is perfect to go under helmet and covers the neck, plus a nice pocket for hand warmth. It’s super warm! But when I sweat it feels like there is no breathing and the sweat just builds up. However, might have to be just a cute sweater instead of technical use.
