Home run Hobie!

Comfortable seat and stable! Looking forward to days on the water! Surprisingly maneuverable and quick with standard paddle drive! Perhaps a future upgrade with “turbo” paddles….

Great, but cannot get parts from Hobie or REI

Do not buy Hobie equipment, even from REI. We have a broken rudder, and after weeks of trying by phone and email, cannot get a response from Hobie. REI says they cannot help. We have an expensive piece of equipment that we cannot get in working order.

Great product for the solo fisherman

Quick Delivery, and good service picking it up from the store after ordering it online. The only downside was the steering was not hooked up which as understandable, but was hard to install. Tere are videos on the install on the Hobie Youtube channel but the camera angle weret that clear about how the steering lines wound around the drum. A little trial and error and it has been fixed. The boat handles like a dream and having the reverse function on the Mirage drive is phenomenal to keep yourself out of drifting to places you don't want to be. The turning radius is superb as well. The weight is great for one decently strong person to handle cartopping by themselves but getting a roofrack with an extended pole to the side or off the back would make things a lot less cumbersome. I definitely suggest the rudder guard that doesn't come with this for another 30 bucks to help protect the rudder while cartopping and giving more leverage when adjusting it on the roof rack. I'm very happy with this kayak and the brand of Kayak. My previous boat was a 10 ft ascend that ended up with a leak after 2 seasons and I purchased this one so I could do some inshore fishing without worry of the waves that can sink you in the ocean. The Mirage drive makes this thing fast and agile which is what I want to chase diving birds where striper are feeding. The boat shows no signs of bowing under my 200lb weight and my gear, and I can stand up and fish if the water is calm. I havent tried standing up in the ocean but I have no doubts once the sea legs come, I'll be able to do it.

Incredible Kayak

I bought my Hobie Compass from REI in early 2022, and used it frequently at our lake home in Northern Minnesota. I was able to easily do 5+ mile voyages with minimal effort, and one trip over 10 which was a lot of fun. The drive system is so efficient and simple, it is absolutely genius. It's perfect for fishing too, without having your hands occupied with a paddle. My kids and I argue over who gets to use it, so I ordered a 2nd one (Mirage Passport 12 r) for this summer.
