Shoe was fine but they were use!! The box was in two pieces, they were unlaced like someone had just taken them off and the soles were really dirty. It’s super gross that REI thought that was ok. I returned them to the store and none seemed to care what state they were in. Very disappointed in the whole experience.
These shoes are rugged and comfortable, and snappy-looking on my feet. They do not run narrow, but the design makes them look narrower than the average hiking shoe, which is appealing to those of us who have big feet! These are not quite as cushioned as comparable salomon / merrell, but they are lighter weight and just as rugged, and an after-market insole adds sufficient cushioning.
I’ve been wearing AKU hiking boots for several years now. Love the grip of the Vibram soles and the feeling of true support. Pair that with virtually no break in time and you’ve got a winner! Recently I ordered the low top and found the same superior support and traction. They will be the ones getting packed into my suitcase for hiking trips!
