I was looking forward to this upgraded pack as I really liked the earlier version. While they have made some changes to the frame and has a new adjustable fit system to fit different torso types better. It reminds me a little of the Osprey Atmos 65 AG system. It is a little lighter than the prior version and the hip pockets are a little longer. The two big issues here are that 1) they do not include a raincover. Instead you have to now spend an additional $40 to get it. 2) The removable hydration /day pack has been eliminated. You can again buy this separately for $40. All this while raising the cost of the model by almost $20. So you will end up paying almost $500 if you want to buy it with the rain cover and the day pack. Not worth it - much better options out there for this price.

Gregory’s Baltoro was probably the best choice when it comes to quality, practicality and value, but the truth must be spoken. The new 2022 'version' of the backpack is a downgrade of what it was before. It's not just a lack of previously included raincover and a daypack/hydration pouch holder, it looks like overall quality and design decisions went downhill. Personally, the biggest issue for me is the size of the sleeping bag compartment access. It's too narrow to fit a 0ºC sleeping bag (~13'' vs ~14'' in the old model). No matter how I tried, the only way to fit a sleeping bag is from the top, which makes packing and unpacking a chore. Another downgrade, in my opinion, is a water bottle pocket. In the old model it was possible to tighten it up to secure a water bottle, the new one only has a lash without any adjustment. The bottom of a water bottle pocket in the old model was made out of a mesh material, which was preventing dirt and moisture accumulation while the new one is a solid fabric. Same changes were done to the meshed hipbelt pocket, now it's solid. There are changes to the top access as well. It's probably more of a personal preference, but I like two zippers on the sides more than the crescent one in the center. In contrast to all negative aspects there are few positive improvements as well. The biggest improvement is a better adjustability for the back and hipbelt, also hipbelt pockets have grown in size and now can fit even the biggest smartphone. Overall it’s a bit of a disappointment for me. If an old model was a clear winner by almost all parameters, the new one feels like corners were cut. I expected better from Gregory especially considering that the price went up.

I made my first trip with my Baltoro 65 to Big Bend Ranch State Park not long ago. We were 5 days and 4 nights in the back country. There was everything from gravel wash to boulder scrambling during our hike. The pack performed exceptionally well. It was very balanced and comfortable throughout. I highly recommend it!

I’ve tried ultralight packs. I’ve tried mid-range price point packs. I’ve tried alpine packs. Nothing compares to this one. 12 days back country and never sore. Intuitive design for easy reach everything. Unmatched comfort. Fits like a glove. I don’t feel like I’m carrying it; it fits like a part of my body. Very durable (had to descend around 1000ft of steep scree on my bottom and not a scratch on the bottom of my pack). It’s a little heavier than the ultralights that are very popular now, but I’m happy to carry the extra weight if it means super padded straps and hip belt. It’s also small enough to fit in an overhead bin on planes. In my opinion it’s the rolls Royce of backpacking packs. Quality matches the price. I’ve had two daypacks in the past 12 years- both Gregory, both used daily. I’ve never had a Gregory pack I didn’t love.

WOW.. my 1st Gregory. I have another 4 backpacks since 2003. My 1st one had a higher thickness & lasted a long time. I still have. Over the years these packs became lighter but the thickness of the material became less. This backpack brings back the thickness of earlier backpacks because it has an interior lining that covers most of the backpack except the sides, but the sides have thicker material. It has a metal / aluminum frame which is important for support. The hip belt is very good, well padded & will support weight. It can accommodate 50lbs, but best to go lighter 1/2 - 25lbs max when hiking. The shoulder harness is well padded. Very comfortable fit. Front load is a very good must feature. It is the best backpack I have ever purchased. Lots of detail in this new model.

I am so disappointed this pack DOES NOT come with the previously included day pack and DOES NOT come with a rain cover. I took back my Baltoro 65 because a strap broke and feel like I got downgraded having to get the newer version. How can a 320$ pack NOT come with a rain cover and the usually included day pack. The new hip support design is also a bust. I'm switching to a different brand. Sad because I really liked Gregory.

I absolutely love this pack. After years of ultralight packs not quite cutting it in the comfort department, I decided to try something different. This was a whole new world. It’s so so comfortable, with all the nifty features that make a big difference; the sunglasses loop&sinch, the easily reachable botttle pocket, the front and bottom access to the main compartment, ample space in the hip pockets. There’s nothing I don’t like about it. It’s the rolls Royce of packs. The added weight is worth the comfort. I took it on a 12-day hike with with a considerable load and was never sore. Not a sore shoulder or hip. It moves with my body perfectly. High five to this pack!

Greatest Backpack I've Ever Owned

I've been backpacking for years and have struggled to find a pack that balances comfort with weight and functionality until I tried on this Gregory. My Gregory has accompanied me on many adventures across the Sierra Nevada, Sawtooth's, and Central Cascades. The pack itself is expertly designed with a multitude of pockets that have proven useful from carrying food to my ice axe. I look forward to many more adventures knowing my Gregory is perfect!

This was the first time I upgraded my pack in a long time. I was looking for one with thick and comfortable waist straps, as well as had enough storage for a multi-day hike. I decided to "break it in" on a day hike, but loaded it up with weight and gear to see how it would handle. I was very pleased with the results! Handled well, stayed snug to my body and the storage compartments were perfectly placed. Other additional things that I really like were the easy access water bottle holder on the side, and the zipper "covers" to help prevent any rain/moisture from getting into the bag. Would highly recommend!

Great pack, once it was fited, it felt like a glove. First hike I carried 22 pounds for 10 miles. Pack preformed to expectations. Plenty of storage spaces, easy to access the hip storage to get the camera out, easy on and off during breaks. Happy with the volume of space. Planning to use this bag for 2-3 day backcountry hikes this year, plenty of room for all my gear.
