Great pack if modified
There is no perfect pack for my dog out of the Box, so I am really happy that I got this one and made two modifications to make it work well for us. First I added a small caribbiner to the chest pad in the front of the pack so that I could use that as a martingale type attachment since that is the best place for the leash to keep my dog from pulling. Secondly, I like the big roomy pouches, but I normally don't have my dog carry that much stuff and there was no way to cinch them up and so they were kind of floppy. I ended up adding 4 cinch straps, 2 on each side so that I could reduce the volume of the pouches to whatever was needed to keep things secure and keep them from shifting or bouncing. I know like that this pack does not have a pack separate from the harness, which causes the pouches to flop around. My modifications required a sewing machine and some understanding of sewing, but I was able to create a perfect pack for my female border collie mix.
Comfortable & stable fit on hikes, ok for runs
Hiking: This backpack came recommended and I wasn’t disappointed. It took some time to adjust the straps initially but once that was done it stayed put on a hike when it was both full and empty as my dogs cavorted around trails and in the water. It’s versatile enough for light and heavy loads on hikes. My dogs didn’t seem to notice it. Running: I take my dog on some hard, fairly hot runs so I would go with something lighter for a running backpack. It was a bit heavy and required careful water balancing for a 9mi summer run. I now pack my dog’s water and bowl in my running vest instead.
Great quality dog pack!
This pack is high quality, easy to put on my German Shepherd, and seems to be very comfortable on her. The pockets are large and will hold food, treats, bowls and toys easily. It’s lightweight but has a substantial feel. She acts like she doesn’t know she’s wearing it. Highly recommend!
Finally found the right one!
We have tried several types/brands of harnesses on our dog and had no luck until this one. She has chewed, wiggled out of and refused to put on other harnesses. She was not thrilled initially with the Ollydog but once I got the size correct, she is very happy and we can enjoy our hikes and walks together.
Me and my dog love it!
A little big for my pitbull, but with some finagling it fit just fine! Carries quite a bit!
You and Your Dog are Going to LOVE This!
Arrived on time. The blue color is fantastic and has a light pattern on it. Easy to adjust the straps and fit. My dog seems to really like it! Used on a day trips with no issues.
Best Pack for the Money, Paws down
I've seen this thing on clearance for SO long I felt compelled to leave a review. Yes, I also bought this on clearance and at a very low price, especially compared to the competition, and its a total home run! We've had this pack for about a year and a half, our dog has roughly 50 miles on this pack and she seems to have no complaints. She is a "purebred mutt"(we have no idea) that weighs a solid 55-60 pounds depending on her workout schedule. We have had ZERO issues with adjustments. The straps are solid and offer enough adjustment to fit her sorta weirdly muscular shape. We also feel extremely comfortable using the handle to lift her when needed. She doesn't LOVE that part, but gets over it to continue the adventure. as long as you verify the strap pads are in the correct place before you hoist her up, she'll be fine. We've actually trained her to jump on 3 so its alittle fun for me to use the handle too. At any price I've seen this at since I've bought it, I would buy it again and again. The pockets hold her food and treats for the trip. Along with a b. a. l. l. And it can comfortably fit an UL Nalgene for water. For hotter or longer trips, we can fit even more water with flexible bottles or pouches. Make sure you balance the pack! We have use this for trips all over NC and VA. Our dog hasn't been held back at all, still nimble, agile, and the best I can tell, has a blast wearing it (she used to REALLY hate it, but has come to understand its either this or get left behind!). She really has no regard for the pack to be honest. Early in the trip she will take corners short and get the pack caught against a tree or rub it tightly against a rock. She doesn't care that she could put a hole in it, and honestly, the pack doesn't either. No holes, it does have some aberration marks, but our dog abuses it until she learns how wide she really is. Its extremely durable with no signs of slowing down. If you are looking for a solid dog pack and don't want to spend double this, this is it. Stop looking. Your research is over. Nothing for the price is going to come close.
Pretty good! Would like cinch straps for side bags
I bought this pack because it was on sale and I was looking for a decent hiking pack to train my new rescue with. Overall, it's been pretty good! The straps can adjust quite a lot (which has been great for us because my pup needed to put on some weight). I will say, the straps don't seem to bother my dog, who has longer hair, but if you have a short-haired dog I would worry about rub spots. My other complaint is that the side bags are quite large and can flap around quite a bit if you have smaller items in them that can roll around. I saw another review of a person who added straps to strap down the side bags, and I'm thinking of doing the same. I think it would make carrying items more comfortable for the dog. The accompanying leash is good! Nothing super special but as a climber I love that it's climbing rope inspired.
The Rover is Great, the Leash, Not So Much
The rover seems sturdy and has a lot of functions. However, the leash ripped out of the blue. A 30lb dog was able to pull it apart after only a few weeks go use.
Good space
I love the pack and the space it has for my dog to carry things. I ordered a size too big, however, so I'm excited to exchange it, which REI makes easy for any member, and get him out on the trail with this pack. It's well made and will fit securely
