Swix Gunde XC Kick/Grip Wax and Cork Pack
Stoked for making tracks all winter? Be ready for the full range of temperatures with this Swix Gunde XC Kick/Grip Wax and Cork Pack. It comes with 3 key temperatures of grip wax plus synthetic cork.
- For use with any waxable classic cross-country skis that require grip underfoot (skis not included)
- To use, apply a thin layer of wax by rubbing on then corking in with included synthetic cork; several layers work best
- Rub on only; do not iron
- V55 Red Special wax is designed for grip/glide around 32°F; V45 Violet Special wax works best between 21 and 32°F; V40 Blue wax is best for colder days between 10 and 28°F
- Select wax based on the temperature in the shade and snow type (new or old); wax softer for older snow
- Fluorocarbon-free
- Clean with Swix Base cleaner, fiberleene and a scraper (not included)
- Do not use on climbing skins or over a pattern/no-wax base

Why doesn't REI have cold-weather grip waxes?
Very disappointed that the pack does not contain Green wax. I knew it when I bought, but had no other choice because REI no longer sells grip wax for the colder temps. You have both Green and Polar base binder waxes but not the kick waxes to go on top. I don't believe base binders provide any grip. Also the "synthetic cork" in the pack is styrofoam. I'll try it but am afraid it will crumble and blow across the wilderness.
Indispensable
I've been using Swix since I started Xcountry skiing in 1971 on both plastic and wood skis. It has the advantage of allowing for accommodating different loads simply by changing the area of the kicker. It's ok on plastic skis that tend to have less camber but great on wood skis which are by far my preference.
REI, Please Carry a Wider Range of Kick Waxes
This was a nice pack to buy to cover a decent temp range, but sometimes I ski in colder conditions and wish this set of kick waxes covered a wider range. And it's odd that REI doesn't carry one or two more colder kick waxes. REI, you're making me go to other outdoors stores - what the heck?!?
