After my Rossignol step in boots wore out I bought a pair of soft boots and ended up breaking my clavicle. I generally like to ride high speed powder runs and a stiff boot is a great benefit for that type of riding. These boots are top of the line! From the inner lace up system to the inner strap to the strap on the outside strap that releases pressure on the calf for ease of walking and splitboarding. There are also pads so that you can adjust just the inner boot for firmness around the ankle i.e. No heal lift, needless to say I won't be returning these boots, ever!
