Sizing Notes
Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.
IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Comfy shoe, but not durable
I have the Torin Knit, which is the previous version of this shoe. They are super comfy and I love how soft and stretchy the upper is, especially compared to other road shoes. They are wide, but that's what I want from an Altra! However, I've only run ~100 miles in mine and the soles of the shoe look destroyed. They seem to have reinforced the wrong parts of the sole and the outer areas only have soft foam left instead of rubber. Definitely disappointed, I expect my shoes to last at LEAST to 300 miles. Not sure if I got a bad pair or if these are just lower quality than my previous Altras.
Best walking shoe I have ever owned!
I have purchased a variety of sneakers from multiple orthopedic shoe companies but continue to have pain while wearing them. The Torin 5 Luxe was recommended with it's wider toe box because it alleviates bunion pain. The comfort of the cushion and the shape of the heel also aide in the comfort of this unique shoe. I needed no break in period, no bunion cushion bandages, and no heel bandages for blisters while wearing them for eight days of walking 20k steps daily in Disney. I have continued to wear them daily since my return. This was unheard of when I wore other shoes. I would need to alternate to alleviate the pressure points on my feet Thank you for giving me my ability to distance walk again.
Pillows!!
I've been wearing Escalante for a few years now. The latest 2.5 being my fave (1.5 least). But... the soles do not last long. I've tried other Altra lines but nothing feels like the Escalante. Now the Torin to me feels like Escalante just with more cushion and a more "rugged" sole. The Luxe are hot, will be good cold weather shoe. The Torin feel more Escalante outer. My only complaint is the tongue, on the Torin and Torin Luxe. If they could be like the Escalante tongue, I'd be in heaven (particularly the Luxe, the thicker tongue doesn't give which leaves it digging into my foot bend). The true test will be to see how the sole holds up.
Disappointed in the change to this shoe
Bought these shoes because of toe problems and they worked great, no more pain. Ordered a second pair and could not figure out why they were causing pain until I measured them against the first pair and discovered that they were narrower. I see that you have cut down the width. WHY??? People buy these for a reason and that's because of the wide toe box. You can buy a good pair of running shoes anywhere. You know the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. That wide toe box is part of your success. If you're going to change that, I'll have to look elsewhere. The very least you should do is offer the original footbed as an option, or offer it in wide.
We're sorry to hear you are not satisfied with the updates to the Women's Torin 5 Luxe. Whether positive or negative we do take all feedback seriously and will assure it is directed to the appropriate department. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
This is the ONLY shoe in the Altra lineup that fits my foot.
The Torin 5 Lux is literally the only shoe in their lineup that fits my foot. Admittedly my foot is rather like Fred Flintstone's, though I am not overweight. I have just tried 5 other ones. They are either too narrow across the metatarsal region, too rigid, too tight to work. If I go to a wide Torin 6, it still doesn't fit as well. The Lone Peaks have a different footbed that is not as workable on my foot. BUT I did keep the Wide Lone Peak's Only for the traction. What I would LOVe to see is a Hiking shoe that would have enough room in the toe box and mid range with a regular heel fit.... but that may just be my dream.
Just bring back the 4.5 please
I love my Torin 4.5s and need a new pair, but can't find any, so I figured I had to go with the 5. But I saw all the reviews about the tongue problems w/ the 5 and chickened out. When I saw they came out with this "Luxe" version I figured Altra has seen the reviews and fixed the tongue! But NO. The tongue pokes into the front of my leg. I could cut it, I guess, but just on principle I refuse to cut a brand new pair of pricey shoes. Please Altra, just bring back the Torin 4.5.
Much better tongue than previous two editions!
Marathon runner here. I have hallux limitus and had surgery for it in November. I ran the NYC marathon in November in the Torin 4.5 plush. The Torin 5 luxe has a much more comfortable tongue and upper. The sole is not quite as cushioned as the 4.5 and 5 plush which is sad. I have been running in them for about 2 weeks with a 15 mile long run this past Sunday and they performed well. I will probably buy a second pair.
Loved but only lasted two months
My husband bought me these shoes for Christmas. I've been struggling with plantar fasciitis and need to wear shoes all the time. These were almost exclusively worn around the house but every day, all day. They are so comfortable and I loved them. But after only a little over two months of wear, there is a hole in the fabric part where my big toe is. I'm so disappointed. I wouldn't purchase again.
I love this shoe!
I used this shoe on a five mile hike on an asphalt trail the day I bought it and a 5 mile hike on natural trails the next day. All good! First day my feet felt a bit tired at the end of the day, I think because I was using my foot muscles differently and better. I love the zero drop, the cushioning is just right for me, and unlike most shoes it fits great in front (love the width) and the heel (mine is narrow). This one felt better to me than the Torin 6, though that would have been my next choice if this Torin 5 Luxe were not available in my size. I would have had to have a 7.5 in the Torin 6. Size 7 in the Torin 5 Luxw was perfect for me. I look forward to wearing it in more situations.
I wanted them to be the "old" torins.
I have worn torins for years. I really wanted these to be a comfort ride like 2-4.5 were. These are .... Okay... I've ran in them and they were ok for low mileage days... I worked several 12 hour hospital shifts in them and they were just okay for that too . The toe box is still wide on this model, the heel has a good grip without being constricting. I just wish the footbed had more cushion to negate those 12 hour shifts. It's not at all a bad shoe....( they worked on that pesky tongue ) it's just not what will get me through work ... it's a solid 5 mile run shoe for runs.
