Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

This is a very comfortable shoe(I would call it an upgrade to the Grafton Infused with elements of the lone Peak 5-wide(not as wide) Interior wise!! , But the exterior material gives that appearance. I could've ordered a size down. From a 12-1/2 to 11-1/2, But I will keep them, I added my own laces. These are definitely better constructed than most normal Altra footwear, The color scheme is definitely, Influenced by normal; eco-organic-Earth tones, Now if they can just come out with an ankle top and a wide 4foot version, More anatomically correct-oblique toe-box to normal human healthy feet,
This has been my favorite pair of shoes that I've ever owned, but like everyone else, the holes on the corners of the shoes appeared very quickly. Terrible flaw to such an awesome shoe. Especially for the exorbitant price. I am proud to have walked/hiked over 1k miles on these in 5 countries! I love how they don't get hot in the summer. I'm considering buying another pair.. but dang that price just really isn't worth it when they only look good for about a month. Also, I really wish the colors were different. I'd put the Sand colored souls on the green shoes and make the orange parts tan or black.
LP Alpine 12&1/2 compared with Birkenstocks 12, & LP5W 11&1/2 & Altra Tushar Boots(these lightweight hikers are outstanding) They appear wide but they are not, Necessarily that wide. Compare with the LP5W, It’s the actual material that it is constructed of that gives it that appearance , But the LP 5 wides: are actually more spacious. They are definitely more foot shaped and anatomically- oblique-ergonomic tobox,(A good thing) The color matrix is also outstanding, Burnt rust orange, Lunar granite gray, Contrasting black with the forest green. Somewhat retro 70s this light hiker is very nimble, With a generous toebox but my foot is not necessarily that wide, The heel cup area could be a little more snugger for my liking, The additional eyeholes close to the ankle are actually covered internally?, I will purchase another pair of these shortly, It would be nice if they came in ankle high something like the lone Peak meds, In a wide version-and increase the overall structure of integrity: But right now they are firm enough for hiking, Canyoneering , Good spacing on the leasing system I could get a good tiedown-Securing of the instep and ankle is Paramount, When boulder hopping, Or anything that requires “technical agility Movements” All in all I’ll give the lone Peak alpine 7 stars, Because there is no other footwear in the market that has a zero drop platform with a generous toe-space & forefoot area.
I love the way these shoes feel. Like my other Ultra's they are super comfy, and my toes have ample room to breathe. The soles are still in great shape, and the shoes are still comfy to walk in but both of the uppers are tearing. The problem is they started to fall apart after a few months of not-so-heavy use. The soles are still in great shape, and the shoes are still comfy to walk in but both of the uppers are tearing. I love them, but I don't think I should have to replace them every few months. Maybe I just got a bad pair because I haven't had this issue with any of my Ultra trail runners.
This is a very nimble hiking shoe, I wish they came in the wide version and ankle height(ergonomically&anatomically-oblique toebox:) For a normal human healthy foot(wide foot) Wipe the LP5 wide, I would purchase about five sets of them, But you are getting there little by little this is the best hiking shoe yet that you put on the market. I have five pair of the LP5 wide,I color-dyed one of them a Thon different, Because the wides only come in one color:( The other shoes in the comparison are Dundee Birkenstocks out of Production.
As the title says, these are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I have wider feet, so Altra's whole branding of "Natural Foot Shape" is pretty accurate, there's simply a bigger toe box for your toes. My usage is pretty easy on my shoes. I wore these shoes exclusively as my day-to-day shoes. No running or hiking. Just everyday walking around shoes. My average steps are typically 2-4k steps a day. So at most, 2 miles. Much, much less on the weekends. Unfortunately, like many of the reviews here, they have a pretty major defect in craftsmanship. On my particular pair, the fabric covering the toe box started to tear at the outer most edge within a few months. At one year the damage has seems to not be getting worse, but I would not recommend these shoes to anyone. I paid good money to buy shoes that would last, not for shoes that last for less than a year. If the warranty claim doesn't replace the shoes I'm certainly not giving Altra any more of my money.
These leather Altras are really poorly made. The sides and fronts blew out before the soles even wore down. I usually love Altras, but I'm going back to the standard synthetic lone peaks. Great idea, poor execution.
It seems that the objective of this shoe was to make something that could run on roads, on trails, and be worn to work. But there are two main issues; heat and stiffness. The suede is nice, but it makes the shoe very hot and stiff. I love Altra, and I love the Lone Peak. But this cannot replace the standard Lone Peak 6. If you want a good winter shoe, sure go for it; but it's not even water proof. Cannot wear in the spring and summer, much less out on a hike on a hot day. But it does look great. My advice would be to make a shoe that looks just like this, but with a material different than suede, because the suede is just too hot.
I love these shoes as soon as I put them on: very comfortable and a great look. But two months in the fabric above the toes started coming apart in the same two spots on each shoe, which has only gotten bigger. And four months in, the tread is heavily worn despite basic city wear. When I got to walking some mild trails in Montana, it disappeared faster. These shoes are just too expensive to come apart and wear out so quickly. I would expect at least a year out of an everyday shoe at that price and I have had sneakers that lasted three years. I'll be surprised if these get to 9 months.

I love Altra and have many different shoes from them. This model has blown out in the hinge on both pair I own. This happens very early in the life of the shoe. I would expect more from a shoe made by Altra. Hopefully they have addressed it. Not sure if it has to do with the hemp fabric or not? It has happened on both sides of the hinge on both shoes on each pair. Obviously a build quality issue as I bought both pair at different times from different sources. One from REI and one from The Altra website. Didn't wear one pair for some time. Once I did however the same issues appeared.
