I am writing this review so potential buyers are fully informed. As other reviewers have indicated this "sleeping platform" (cot) is a beast. It weighs all of 32 pounds, the stated weight in the product description. That's heavier than most military style cots. I won't quote it's packed dimensions but just call it big and clunky when stored. So big in fact, that I wouldn't consider it for car camping, especially if you have a small SUV or sedan, unless this cot is the only thing you pack. I have a Toyota Tacoma, with shell, Yakima luggage carrier with plenty of storage space. But when I get it loaded up with all the gear that I take on trips that last weeks, sometimes months, this cot is just too much more to haul in and out off the truck even for extended trips. I bought the Levitate to replace a small tent cot that weighs and occupies about a quarter of that of the Levitate. The old cot was showing it's wear and was a low rider being only 6 or 8 inches off the ground. At my age I wanted something that was easier getting out of in the morning. The Levitate checked that box. When unfolded it has a bigger sleeping area than the old cot. As a side sleeper, I was ready for that upgrade. There are several pros and the main reason I gave it some stars: - Rock solid when set up. - Good size for a side sleeper or bigger person - The bottom of the feet are large to protect the tent floor. - Excellent price when I got in on sale. - Solid sleep surface without sagging associated with most fabric cots. Easy on your back but plan on using a pad. Also be aware that the aluminum slats only occupy every other baffle in the fabric surface making it somewhat of a washboard sleep surface so, again, a pad would be a necessity. - Appears to have good build quality and durability. - Is the perfect height to get out of in the morning. I think the Levitate would be great for a big wall tent camp or horse camp where weight and space are not an issue. With a pad it would also make a great guest bed at home or for a power nap at the office. In summary packed size and weight are it's only downsides, but a deal killer for me so I returned it to REI, bit my lip on price, and bought a Helinox.

Sturdy but pairs best with a great sleeping mat

This is a sturdy and quality sleeping platform but necessitates an equally quality sleeping mat to provide a comfy sleep. Because the top part is made of wooden slats, no mat or a mediocre sleeping mat (like the one I have, unfortunately) means you can feel those slats a little more than you want to. My mat was also shorter then this platform (which is quite long and filled the entire width of my REI Kingdom 6 tent - I had to position it that way to fit a double mattress beside it) and, since I like to hang my feet off the end, I could especially feel them at my ankles (I am 5'8"). Best used for car camping where gear lugging is kept to a minimum - it is HEAVY. Don't wait to put it together for the first time while camping either as you'll need a knife or scissors to get all the tape and packaging off. PROS: Sturdy and doesn't creak or bend with normal tossing and turning. Easy and intuitive to put together (took about 20 minutes the first time, including removing all the packaging it came in). Pivoting feet means it would still work even if the ground isn't completely level. Stretchy corner straps to keep mat (phone, book, small flashlight) in place. CONS: Heavy and fairly bulky. Wooden slats can be felt (and kinda painful) if sleeping mat isn't great.

Stout and Sturdy

First off, this thing is a tank. The entire setup is anchored together with straps after you have unfolded it, this alone makes it more sturdy than other cots I've used. The slat system on the top is more like an IKEA bedframe than any other cot I've ever used. Note, it absolutely needs a sleep pad of some sort. I threw on a thermarest pad and it was good. The feet have a nice wide pad, no worries about shredding tent floors. One other plus is the bag it comes in is actually big enough to put it back into. It is fairly heavy, and it is very long. I'm 6' and I had at least a foot of extra clearance. It is not quite wide enough to sleep one human and one chocolate labrador. Though he tried.

Great for its intended use!

This is a great piece of gear for car camping, an extra bed at home, the beach or a backyard nap. Easy to set up and repack. Sturdy frame and components. Designed to be used with a sleeping pad. Nice wide pivoting feet for stability, including on uneven surfaces. I used the platform with both a Thermarest pad and an inflatable mattress. Both were quite comfortable. Since the platform is 18” off the ground it creates extra storage space underneath, which is useful in a tent or canopy. I liked it enough that I purchased two more.

Sturdy but very uncomfortable

my wife and i recently picked up a set of these for car camping. They are easy to assembly, are very sturdy and are nice and tall but are extremely uncomfortable. the rolled slat design is 100% rigid - as unforgiving as sleeping on a hardwood floor. Neither my wife, with two sleeping pads (a 4" thick big anges q-core air mattress on top of a 1.5" thick car camping style therm-a-rest) or me on a 2" thick air therm-a-rest slept comfortably over the 4 nights we used these. We will be returning these and looking for another option. Typical cots have use a stretched fabric for the laying surface that has some level of forgiveness. these cots do not.

Solid Construction and Easy to Assemble Cot

I was able to set up the cot easily. The base unfolds and the covers slip on one end then the other. It's recommended to use a 30" wide inflatable mattress pad, but all I had were my backpacking pads. I could lay on the cot comfortably with my foam pad. The reason for the average review is that the cot is overall heavy to carry and could only be used for travel by car, truck or RV. It will make sense for us as a second bed in our 5th wheel. Plus, if you don't have the right mattress, you'll need to buy one. In other words, as a standalone cot, it's too hard and uncomfortable for resting or sleeping for hours on end.

A Platform; Not a Cot

It is built like a tank. Also weighs about the same as a tank. It is big. I wanted to get this into a 4 person tent. Couldn't do it. It would fit into my 8 person tent. The difference between a sleeping platform and a cot soon became self evident. The platform is made of wood slats. It is really well made. But would require additional padding to work. It was clear I needed a cot. My bad. The platform gets four stars - 1 deduction for the weight. Even for car camping, this is a beast.

great cot…look closely at description

I love this cot when paired with mat. It is very sturdy, easy to set up, and very high quality. Make sure you ready the description before you buy because it is very large, sits high off the ground and it does have some weight to it. If you are using this in a tent…make sure your tent has enough headroom. Not designed to carry up a mountain…but does fit nicely in a vehicle. Comes with a very nice bag to handle the weight.

Perfect height, easy setup, and FLAT!

I love this cot. Every other cot out there is hammock like and uncomfortable. With my Exped Megamat on top, I'm as snug as a bug in a rug. This cot is flat like the earth and makes me feel like an adult when I'm car camping. It also doubles as an extra guest bed. Get 'em quick as this sale is worth it!

Get one while you can. This is an amazing product.

Get one while you can. This is an amazing product. I’ve had various airbeds and cots and have had some pretty poor experiences, things like waking up on the hard ground because the air bed leaked. I was skeptical about this because of the weight but was ready to try something different. Keep in mind that I have several fractured vertebrae and need a good solid surface to sleep on, yet with a pretty good level of comfort. First, the height of this Is absolutely perfect. You have to use a pad with it. I have a Nemo, and also with a single sized memory foam pad from Walmart, it’s easy to get on and off of. I am 5 feet 6 inches. One of the cots I tried I couldn’t even get out of, and reading other reviews I wasn’t the only one. This thing is kind of heavy but you can carry it in three parts, the base, and the top is made up of two separate pieces that Velcro together. Even with a messed up back it wasn’t bad for carrying. Everyone says this thing is a beast and it is in terms of stability, but if I can carry it anyone can. It’s actually like a real bed. You definitely need a good pad on it because the slats are aluminum. It has very stable feet that won’t dig into the floor. It seems very well-made and like it would last a long time. I’m surprised it’s no longer being made, so like I said, get one while you can if they’re still available.
