Great casual hiker for kids!
Since my daughter actually used the product, I thought I would split this into two reviews - Daughter's thoughts and mine Dad - traction was very good up and down multiple hills - good waterproofing on casual hike through packed snow; held up well even through short stretches of deeper snow. It's maybe not a heavy-duty snowboot, but it's good enough for anything that's not extended slog through deep snow - could handle both running and walking - we struggled with fit, getting on and off, especially through middle part of the boot. It was sort of like getting ice skates on and off, if you don't unlace the upper laces wide enough. There needs to be a little more room through the middle part. - daughter clearly loves the boots! Daughter - They were really comfortable, except for getting them on - Dad keeps asking about if they hard to get on, but they are fine - The best part of these shoes is the aqua part - I like the velcro and lacing part
Kiddo chooses these boots
My three-yr-old has quite wide feet, and it can be a challenge to find shoes that are not enormously long for him. He's been a size 10 in other brands lately, and I requested an 11 in this, just in case. We definitely found it challenging to get his feet in them. His heel kept getting stuck on the back lip, even after loosening the velcro, the "laces" and the tongue. I'm guessing that the the narrow ankle area was no match for widest part of his foot. It's very possible that with more wear, they will loosen up, but I worry that he will outgrow them before he breaks them in. All that said, they give him excellent traction on steep, muddy trails, he loves the gray and blue colors, they held up great during an unfortunate liquid spill, and they are very comfortable for him once on. He honestly has been requesting them for hikes, runs, and balance bike rides.
Comfortable and great for many activities!
My daughter loves her hiking boots. She's worn them outside on the trail and used them as snow boats on a rare southern snow day. In both conditions she loved the grip, the warmth, and her feet didn't get wet. They are tricky to get on - my 5 year old isn't used to such a tight fit with ankle support so getting her to push down into the boot was tough. As she wore them they loosened up around the ankle some and became easier to stretch to get into, but she definitely still needs help getting them on and off. We do love that these are no-tie boots. The classic keen pull tabs are so easy for her little hands and she kept saying they were very comfortable.
Great for rocky ground
This waterproof boot would be perfect for wet weather and rocky terrain. My kiddo loves the mud and water so this has been a great way to keep his feet dry and let's us hike longer. My only issue is that the boots are very stiff and rigid which makes putting them on a little bit tough for my 5 year old. Probably easier for a little older kiddos
Great Fit, Waterproof is good
The fit of these boots on my 5yr old was spot on. He normally wears an 11 - 11 1/2. We got these slightly bigger just to have a bit of growing room but even at teh size up he had no problems navigating and running around in them. He used them out in the snow for several hours and his feet were still warm and dry. I like the thick soles and also the extra rubber that comes up over the toe is a nice addition, especially for younger kids who climb and get drag feet. I did find trying to get a tight lace and tie them to be a bit difficult in working the laces tight, but nothing that we couldn't live with or detract too much from the boots themselves. Definitely liking the various keen styles for kids thus far and the fit is great as in the past we have had some difficulty in finding something that was durable and fit well for our kids. So far we have been able to reuse the boots and shoes for our younger son as a handme down cause they hold up.
