Pros: - Love the high waist and thick waste band! - The pattern is beautiful and they look nice on. You can wear them for apres ski and no one will know you are wearing your base layer - The material is great and warm but breathable - wore these snowboarding several days and they were warm but also very quick to dry when my butt got wet! - Fit is true to size (I am 5'7, 140 lbs - ordered size 8 which fit well) - Made by a women owned company! Cons: - I would prefer a longer fit that goes all the way to my ankles; this base layer goes to my mid calf (which I believe is by design) Cons:
Overall these are a solid base layer. I love the 7/8 length because they are the perfect length for me as someone who is 5'2". They're lightweight but still provide a decent amount of warmth. They have a thick waistband that stays up but doesn't cut into my stomach. The print details are fun and help make it easier to know what leggings I'm grabbing out of the drawer. I wish they were just a little softer and cozier!
Sizing: I got a pair of the leggings in size 6, I think the sizing might not be true. Sizing runs small, I’m guessing. I would normally get a 2 or 4 because I have pretty skinny legs but these do fit in a 6. Comfort: Thick waistband makes it very comfortable without slipping or indenting. I like that the material is just flexible, it feels kind of loose without being loose. They’re a bit scratchy but you get used to it. Quality: Fabric doesn’t pill after wearing under clothes or washing, which is a huge plus for me. Very lint attracting- my dog’s hair was all over it. But that mostly came off in the wash. Function: Neither too hot or cold. I was comfortable in these at 32 degrees and 70 degrees. They do keep me warm without getting sweaty. The length is ideal to tuck into socks so it doesn’t bunch up at the ankles or up at the knees.
Perfect baselayer and length for a 5'4" female. Great for below 30 weather as an extra layer. Also great for lounging at home apres ski in the winter time. I tend to run cold but these wool leggings keep me warm! Love that they don't retain smell between wears.
I’m a 33/34 and 16 on a good day (36” waist, 46” hip); on a bloated day I get up to 41” waist measurement. These fit AMAZING! They are not loose at all but are not tight in a size 14 have a very pleasant stretch. They’ll stay with me on my bloat days and dehydrated days alike. There is a seam between the solid and pattern but it is not at all intrusive (unlike Kari Tara). I am so thrilled to find this brand - smartwool has been reducing wool content and REI is super itchy right now. These are very nice… so much so I might go buy more of the same pattern while they’re still on sale!
I was shocked to see the size chart indicated I needed a 14 - usually I can barely fit in a 16 for outdoor brands. I could probably actually fit a 12 so definitely look at the chart and consider your sizing. Despite being a little loose, these fit nicely under rather tight hiking pants and stayed on me for a week straight during a backpacking trip - hiking, river crossings, sleeping, all in these pants. They dried quickly after river crossings as I continued to wear them throughout the day, even after getting wet to mid thigh. They never got stinky and didn’t stretch out terribly. They also didn’t pill! I am considering sizing down to get a different style while they are still in stock and am pretty confident that they will fit comfortably.
I loved these! I have both smartwool and underarmor base layers and these are my new favorite. I am 5’3” so these fit me like the perfect full length legging. I loved that were sized like regular pants because I felt like I got a much better fit that way (I ordered the size 12). I even worse these under my work gear to an outage in the middle of the night and I was cozy and warm. After washing they’re even softer than when they arrived. These are definitely a new must have in my books. I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.
Love the merino base-layers. After a long day of hiking in the winter, these stay soft & comfortable and don't stink up my snow bibs through the day (big plus)!
I can’t tell if these run large or they just don’t fit my body shape, they look weird on me. Either way they’re covered up by my bibs and keep me warm enough.
