Wild Rye is an awesome company (I hadn't heard of them when I ordered but researched before leaving this review--or would have left fewer stars). LOVE the fabric/patterns & impressed by the sustainability. The flaw with these pants is that while they fit fine, the seam/band between the pattern & solid parts is too tight so digs into your thigh. If you're wearing them as a base layer it might not be a huge deal (I didn't wear them beyond trying them on so not sure if it's uncomfortable besides looking weird). But would be an issue if wearing as leggings. Will definitely try other of their clothes, though!
I haven’t hiked in these yet, but have been sleeping in them out camping. Sizing is accurate. Fabric is soft. After one night of sleeping in them, the knees are completely stretched out. They are about 6” short for me (33” inseam), but that’s to be expected with 7/8 leggings. I may return, but I like the thickness of them. Or if the few pairs I feel ok running around in them alone without everyone seeing my underwear.
I took my first set of Wild Rye base layers backpacking in Alaska and didn’t take them off for a week - wore them every moment for 7 days straight. I came back for more. The top was subjected to the shoulder straps of a 55lb pack for quite a few days and still doesn’t have any pilling. I abuse these; they’ve been washed hot and dried in the dryer and they still wear like the day I got them. They’ve been my base layer through Colorado winter and sometimes my only layer in shoulder seasons, always with a hiking pack. I LOVE these. That said, the sizing is so off. I am a 16/18 and fit into almost no straight sizing; 45/38/46. I wear a 12 in the Wild Rye leggings. I got a 14 on the yellow knowing it’s too big but I love the color so I sacrificed the fit, and they’ll be more relegated to sleepwear and casual use. I wear a 29” inseam in everything and these are like a 3/4 length, not 7/8. Probably because I’m chunky and the fabric gets taken up by my hips and thighs. Lastly the other reviews are right, the material relaxes a lot once it’s on. I think that’s why I had to size down so significantly. The Wild Rye size chart is correct so go off your body measurements, not your typical size.
