Comfortable, great color, versatile harness
Now that the gyms's are open again in Portland, I was excited to try out this new harness. While it is a little on the bulky side, it is incredibly comfortable and I think it would be really comfortable over layers in the back country (ice climbing/ mountaineering). I ordered a medium which is my go to size and I have it tightened all the way. The leg loops also do not seem to be adjustable so they are very loose. I would recommend measuring yourself and being sure of your size before ordering. The harness construction feels very safe and durable, I have always been very pleased with Petzl products. I would absolutely recommend this harness if you are looking for something with lots of cushion and comfort, or to wear in the winter over layers. I do think the bulk could get really hot if you are climbing on a sunny wall mid-summer.
Decent Beginner Harness, sizing range bit limited
This is a quality harness that competes with other entry level offerings from BD and Edelrid. Padding is adequate and the harness fits comfortably! Pros: harness actually tightens down securely for those within the lower bounds of the sizing range! Something that they don’t always achieve. Harness is well padded and is comfortable when hanging/resting. Cons: harness size guide is actually pretty accurate. It doesn’t expand much past the upper bounds. The webbing connectors for the legs to the waist are positioned a bit oddly. One of them ends up running down the center of your butt if you don’t have the harness all the way smallest..
Hang in it before committing
I climbed in this harness for a couple of weeks and never felt that it was comfortable as my other harnesses. Unless the leg loops were hanging at a longer than normal setting, they would dig into my legs when hanging or catching. The harness is designed to sit higher on your waist, but didn’t have a long enough leg loop connection for me to wear it that way, and I’m only 5’5. A shorter friend also wore it for a day and found it more comfortable. I felt secure catching and taking falls with the harness. The gear loops are spacious although I haven’t tested the harness outside yet. The material feels like denim initially, but will probably soften with wear and sweat.
Harness for fun in any weather!
The Petzel Corax LT was tried out in sunny /dry and cloudy/wet cold weather and fit well on layers of clothing as well as simple layers. The loop in the back is perfectly placed for a chalk bag. The loops are available for light equipment and for more weighty trad gear. The width of the belt and leg harness loops are comfortable while climbing or being lowered from a climb. The leg loops need to be pulled up and placed as they are not adjustable. Enjoyable harness. The size I used was small and was able to fit over different layers of clothing, however if someone needs to accommodate large upper thighs, the leg loops need to be considered.
Small leg loops
The leg loops are very small and not adjustable (just a bit of elastic). I need the waist almost as small as it goes on the M so I can't size up, but the leg loops are very snug and not comfortable, and may not fit over my snow gear. (I'm 5'9", 145lb and slightly pear-shaped). If you have slim thighs you should be fine, but if your thighs are a bit thicker or muscular this may not fit you well.
my new friend
Harness can be a piece of gear that you love or merely tolerate. I needed a new harness, as my old one was just too old to be safe anymore. So while it was hard to say goodbye to my old one, this Petzel made it easier. The fit hasn’t changed much in 10+ years, which made choosing the right size easier. I have now worn it for several sport climbing, trad climbing and gym climbing sessions. It’s comfortable even when rappelling or catching a fall from a much bigger climbing partner. The gear loops are enough to carry a fair amount of gear. Enough adjustment to wear over a couple of light layers.
Comfy, great harness
Solid harness! Really comfy and stretchy. I'm on the smaller side and the xs harness worked perfectly, it adjusts at the waist to make you feel secure when you're hanging. I was a little worried it might be less safe than the more expensive ones, but so far so good!
fits, technically
I have been using this harness for a few weeks now and am very satisfied with the purchase. However I did not consider hip size when buying. This *barely* squeaked over my hips, but once it’s on it fits great and performs as expected.
Weird sizing
Weirdly tight around the thighs. I followed the sizing recs but still didn't fit right. And the waist was too loose. Ended up buying something from Balck Diamond.
Comfortable harness
I've mostly been using this harness in the gym and it's quite comfortable. The harness doesn't feel bulky and I haven't noticed any pinching on my legs. The gear loops are a good size and sit equally on both of my sides. I would have easily given this harness 5 stars. However, the fit isn't made for my body type (larger legs, smaller waist). To properly wear the harness, the waist belt is as tight as it goes and the leg loops feel a bit tight.
