Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Very comfortable but slippery in wet conditions

These shoes have a wide toe box and are comfortable. They are fully waterproof. They are extremely slippery in wet conditions. The traction is not good. They are good for snowshoeing and hiking. They are super lightweight.

Silly grommet design
JoJo
These shoes are annoyingly hard to get into and out of because the laces thread through, rather than simply slip into, the top two grommets. As a result, to get into the shoe you have to loosen the entire lace, being mindful not to let the lace slip out of the top grommet. You can't just swiftly unfold the lace out of the top two ankle grommets. If the design of the top two grommets were improved, we'd definitely consider these as our daily dog-walking-along-muddy-paths shoe and our light hiker. But as it is, they're going back.

Great hiking boots

I have been wearing them for about 6 months and they are very comfortable. I needed a little bit time to break them in first. I have wide feet and its hard to find shoes that fit me. I got a half size extra for socks.

Great fit - not waterproof, holey, bad lacing

I want to love these boots! My physical therapist wanted me to go zero-drop. We both love the wide toe box. Nice fit around Achilles and heel. Alas -- these were never waterproof (I live in Oregon - when we say "waterproof" we mean we need actual waterproofness -- I bought mine at the REI in Bend). They quickly developed holes in the weird plasticky material the main body of the shoe is made out of. And it takes forever to get in and out of these shoes. If it hadn't been for Covid restrictions, I would have taken these shoes back! Now it's too late. I can wear them in summer, I guess.

Too tight for Bunion feet

Too Tight for Bunions! The toe box area was wide enough but the shoes are super tight in the area that I needed the extra width and space. It was uncomfortable to the point that I couldn’t even take it on a test hike. More spaces is needed in the front. The feet was pressed down. I have skinny feet with no extra meat in that area. Love the color, style, and lightness of the shoes. This purchase was an attempt to replace my Keens that I have had for 5 years. It did not work out.

Perfect for wide feet

I have very wide toes and a narrow heel that make it almost impossible to find well fitting boots. These boots fit great and are super comfortable. For reference, I usually wear 7.5 WW in tennis shoes and I bought an 8.5 in these. As another review mentioned you do have to loosen the whole shoe to put them on, but I don't find this to be a big issue.

comfortable but not waterproof

While I did enjoy these boots for the first week I had them, they developed holes immediately. They are also not waterproof as advertised. I took them snowshoeing and specifically asked a sales rep for boot that would be up for snowshoeing, these boots will not keep your feet dry! They are comfortable for sure and good for dry hiking, but for the price and advertising of waterproof materials, they are not worth the price.

Too slippery in wet conditions

I really like how these fit my feet, but I saw one reviewer say they were slippery. So I sprayed some water on my floor at home, and it was really slippery wearing these boots. I tried the same thing with my Altra Timp 3, and those weren't slippery at all. For an all weather boot, this didn't meet my needs.

Awesome fit, Poor traction

I have a wide foot so I loved the toe box and the overall fit. The shoes are esthetically pleasing too. I was able to wear right out of the box without any blisters hiking a total of 11 miles first wear. There were a few scrambles and unfortunately I did not feel confident in the traction as I was slipping often. Had to be cautious on dry rocky terrain. Sadly these are being returned. But I will be anxiously waiting for a newer model with better traction

Comfortable shoes, but develop holes quickly

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and they are excellent at repelling mud and water until they develop holes. I wear my shoes from approximately 6 am to 10 pm daily and am on my feet most of the day. The material used for the upper portion of these shoes is brittle, so everywhere the shoes bend when I walk develop holes. I get less than 2 months of wear before they develop holes.
