Great concept! Loved them until one broke.
I love these reusable zip ties. I keep them in my purse and use them for all types of things. And I hate the one time use of regular zip ties. I used them in my Guinea pig cage, on my chicken coops, to secure a saddle on a rack at a horse-show and to keep my dog’s para cord leash together in my purse. I have had 1/4 of my re-ties break. This is the reason for the three stars. I did get more use out of this one than a non-reusable tie, but I still had to toss it in the trash.
Convenient, but not durable
Tooks these reusable zip-ties for a spin! I love the idea of anything that reduces plastic use, but unfortunately, this product has limited features and durability. The packaging indicates that they should withstand 15lbs pressure but I had one break with almost no pressure applied. Another drawback is that they don't full open, so 12" circumference or less (smaller than 4" across) limits their use. On the plus side, great grip on metal items like tent poles!
Secure and reusable
The zip ties are a good replacement for ties that have to be cut to be removed. They are good for cinching a bag at the top for a secure closure. They could be used to secure a rolled item up to 3 inches in diameter. They would be helpful for stabilizing a bike to a rack if they were at least 18 inches long. For hanging items from a backpack, a carabiner is much more convenient and easy to use. I found the small clasp a bit hard to handle. Also, it was not easy to fit the small bump on the pointed end through the hole in the clasp.
Brittle, broken when removed from packaging
Unfortunately, it seems the material that I received is much stiffer than what was shown in the video. So much so that two of the ties broke at the bend where the ties wrap around the card carrier. Having experienced this, I'd be very reluctant to use them for gear on the outside of a day pack, and feel uncertain of how many uses I'd actually get.
Good for a quick fix
These reusable zip ties are interesting - I don't always read instructions, so upon first use I struggled a bit with removing the pinch adjuster from the end of the tie in order to wrap it around the objects I was bundling. Later, after visiting the Matador website, I discovered I was doing it wrong. Egads, they are not as intuitive as I would have thought. However, they are durable enough for wire & cable bundling, which has been their primary use in my home office thus far. I haven't failure tested them on my bike or while camping, so cannot speak to that level of durability yet. (Typically, I use a different branded gear tie, which I prefer above all others, but it's good to know there are options in the reusable tie market.) For the price, they are worth a try - much better than the wasteful alternative of single use zip ties!
A reusable zip tie
First the good: They are quite durable, and very reusable as their product title outlines. They are able to be connected together to make a larger tie when needed. They do not slip when being used, and they are very light weight. Secondly, the not so good: I struggled to find a place where these ties really shine and what gap in my current gear set they can fill. Everywhere I thought I could use them they did worked, but my old gear (a piece of paracord), seemed to work just as well, if not better, and my old gear was more functional. The reusable zip ties work by having a spring-loaded button sit between bumps on the tie. While this provides a strong hold it has limited adjustability over non-compressible items and seemed to be too snug or too loose. Lastly, in summary: I think I will stay with my paracord for most situations as it is more versatile, and when there is a rare occasion where I need a zip tie I will use a traditional non-reusable one as they are more adjustable, and just as light.
Useful for light duty - Limited use so far.
Had to figure out how to pull these completely apart so they were useful. After that, I found them to work reasonably well. Occasional slippage is reason for 4 and not a 5. Material is very strong but fastener mechanism is a bit less so.
Helpful for an extra hold on your bike on the rack
Straps were smaller than I was expecting so didn't get to use them for my daughter's moving but will be an extra hold on my bike on the bike rack. I've had friends lose their bike off the rack a few times and am always worried about that.
Easy to use and convenient but not sturdy
Convenient but not strong. These work well and are easy to use. They are weak and I broke 2 with my first use lashing gear to a bag in a boat - the gunnel ripped them off when tossed in.
Great where you adjust a lot
These were great for things that I tend to loosen/tighten a lot like attaching things to a back pack or stroller. They worked great in lightweight situations. I do wish they were easier to open up to put through things and a little more flexible as they still have kept their shape from the packaging after a few uses. Overall better then using velcro straps or zip ties.
