Great pack, but the sunshade is too low.
I really love this backpack, and my baby loves it too. Lots of storage space for snacks, water, etc. It’s comfortable, so long as the sunshade is down. That is the biggest turn off, when the shade is up, the top part hits the back of my head, making it impossible to look up fully, which is a strain on the neck, and just generally unpleasant. I don’t know if this is a body proportion issue or what. I am 5’8” with a longer torso. For me this isn’t a deal breaker, I’ll just stick a hat on my baby, and some sun protective clothing and call it a day. The shade would be nice though, if I were to do longer trails, mid-day.
Fairly quick set up, load and break down process.
I wanted something compact yet could withstand getting beat up. So far my 6 month has not fussed once while in the carrier. It’s super quick to strap your child in and get them out. It’s a bit of a pinch trying to buckle the pack to it’s lock position. But once you get a technique you’re good to go. I love the storage pockets. I wish the sun shade locked with a clip but it’s a loop thing which is a bit of a pain to hook. But overall I love how easy it is to transport and get the baby in and our.
Love this pack!
This is my first carrier so I don’t have much to compare but this pack fits me amazingly! I did try the regular poco and the plus because I wanted the extra storage, both were too big even on the smallest settings for me (I’m 4’10, short torso). They both felt like baby was too high and threw off my center of gravity but the LT is perfect. The storage is more than enough for our day trips. I saw another review saying there are no loops to feed the reservoir hose through but there are 2 elastic loops on each strap (in the photo it’s used for the excess from the load bearing straps). So far we’ve only maxed at 3 miles but my son loves it! 4 stars only because I wish they’d add the stirrups to the LT.
Easy to use
Easy to use. My baby is a chunk 5 months old and he loves this. He fits great and our old one didn't have the sun screen. That helps a lot. The buckle is nice and easy. It's nice how slim it folds back when not in use. Ami also don't need help putting this on my back I can do it all by myself.
we love it
I’ve been using this nearly everyday on hikes from 1-4 miles with my 20month old son. He loves it & will fall asleep on the longer hikes. I’m glad we went with the LT version as it is perfect for our not so intense every day hikes, but I do miss the feet stirrups of the other versions. The camelbak pouch has no spaces to thread the tube along the side that I can find, so it feels a bit awkward sometimes getting the tube to wrap back up through, and then around my arm. Which makes it easy for my son to grab & pull at the tube. I found our hikes using it so comfy and haven’t had any hip bruising or pains. I just purchased the rain cover so I will do another review on that in another month.
Great Pack, Disappointing Sun Shade
We really really wanted to love this backpack, but the more we use it, the more frustrated we get with it. We have the Osprey Poco Plus and were so excited when Osprey came out with a lighter option, we immediately snagged it. When our daughter was around 14 months this pack was great! She's now almost 2 years old and we are finding we're getting more frustrated with it. First thing and biggest thing that bothers us is the sunshade. My daughter is short, like in the 3rd percentile for height and weight, and now that she's almost 2, the sun shade is so short it rubs on the back/top of her head. We've lowered the seat and it's still not enough. She gets so mad with it that we are starting to be unable to use it (I'd be annoyed with it too, so I get it!) The sunshade also doesn't go down on the sides very much either, so sometimes when she falls asleep, her head is actually outside of the sunshade - getting plenty of sunshine. The toggles to put the sun shade are annoying to use, but we can get over that part. Additionally, we also miss having any sort of pockets for snacks or water bottle on the side. I hate having to take off the pack to get a snack out for her. I also wish it had the foot stirrups. Yes, I know this is a shaved down model to shave on weight, but how much does extra sun netting weigh or mesh side pockets? Not too much and it would have been well worth the extra ounces. We do love how much lighter it is and I do love how it rides closer to your body and has a smaller profile. I am 5'2", 125lbs and this pack fits me well. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves going back to the Poco Plus for the added sun protection and will most likely use that one for backpacking this summer.
best purchase of my life
This was an impulse buy when I was pregnant and it's by far the best purchase I've ever made! As soon as my little dude was holding his head up we used this for everything from farmer's market trips to day trip hikes. I always carry my little dude the whole hike and it's so easy because the weight is very well distributed! There are two buckles to snap the frame together that are pretty difficult, but I don't need the pack to be flat for storage purposes so I just leave them buckled and it's not a problem for me. 10/10 purchase even if you don't hike. My little dude loves being eye level and getting to chat to everyone we walk by!
Great for day hikes, missing some of the poco plus features
I really love this carrier. It has a much smaller footprint than the poco plus which is awesome for every day hikes and easy car storage. My baby loves the carrier and my dogs are grateful I have somewhere to store water and treats for them. I wish it had some of the minor features that the plus has like the hand mirror to see babe, side mesh pockets, better storage in the waist belt and stirrups. Even with those drawbacks, I'd still prefer this over the plus due to the smaller footprint. Overall, highly recommend for those who are hiking with baby and want a little storage but not a massive pack. Also, we love the rain cover! Osprey, can you design a bug net cover for this?
Highly Recommend
So far we have used this in the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Parks. It makes it so much easier to carry our daughter around on all of our treks, especially when we have to pack lunch, baby pouches, snacks, keys, bear spray, and all the other things we need for each day. We also found that a 3L camelback water reservoir fits perfectly in it, and doesn't make it seem bulky at all. It is easy to get our daughter in and out of, PLUS she often falls asleep in it during our hikes. We love the sun shade, and the ease of use. I will say though, that if there is any chance you might end up in the rain, to get the cover, because we didn't, and really regretted it. We love this carrier and highly recommend it!
so glad I went with this one
So glad I went with this carrier over more expensive or heavier ones. Works perfectly for my wife and I to carry our smaller 1.5 yr old. It’s replaced our travel stroller for most car trips. Both wife and I are smaller women and this works fabulously. Lightweight, a lot of storage and feels very safe with baby. Love that it collapses flat and has a built in sun shade. Easy, simple, lightweight, full storage and included shade! What’s not to love.
