Whew, like a glove…alrighty then!

Never can assume what “fits” one will “fit” another but these fit my feet like a glove! They are comfortable, stylish, yet not too flamboyant, and seem to be incredibly supportive, in spite of their thinness, for back and posture benefits. The laces are strong and sturdy as is the overall material. Haven’t even worn them for an “official” hike or nature walk yet. But plenty of gravel, grass and pavement walking has been excellent in them. The only downfall, which is isolated to my mere home entrance pathway, is that they absorb the little tree fallen berry-like seeds and I’m constantly bringing them inside the home 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 Not an issue for most nor a deterrent for these great Merrell’s!

Almost Perfect!

So I finally did a review vid on my chan*el regarding this shoe and all in all here's my thoughts: Style/Appearance: It is dope! way better looking than the previous models. I love the VG2 style and their color options and then the 3 and 4s came out but were not as cool looking. This new one is. Why? Mostly because of the earth tone/neutral colors and the rubber toe bumper removed. This means I wont stand out as much in casual wear. Fit/Comfort: The 10.5 fit snug from heel to toe. Quite accurate to the sizing in the previous model. I will say that you will feel the toes pressured on the new TPU toe protection at first BUT after a while walking in them, It gets better and more "loose". Speaking of loose, the heel is possible where I must say is a con. The heel area for me does not stay so well in place. Basically, it doesn't feel secure like how the previous VG models do. I do like the new sock-line tongue of this shoe. Although I wish it were a bit more snug to fit and shape the wearers foot shape and size. Performance: As I said, the heel and overall foot security for shifting directions or lateral movements is just not as good as the previous models but for sure, they have made improvements on the outer mesh material abrasion resistance, midsole feel, overall fabric, lacing system, and rubber sole. I have not felt any arch support so that's a plus compared to their Trail Glove 6 - :(, and this shoe is the lightest weight of them all (Size 10.5= ~174 grams) Overall, again, I love these shoes. I currently have the Black (updated) and Olive Green ones. Next might be the "Rock"/Grey color option. I hope this review was helpful and if you want more detail search my v-deo online.

Buy these if you like being barefoot

Excellent light weight minimalist shoe. So light they feel like you’re almost barefoot. Used for hiking on rocks, boulders and gravel and they give just enough protection if you’re into the whole barefoot vibe. You feel everything, sometimes it hurts a bit, but I don’t think I was ever close to cutting my feet. The shoes are pretty close to perfect.

Long term wear is poor, manufacturing inconsistent

6 months ago I wrote a glowing review of these shoes based on a few runs in them at the time. I liked the first pair so much that I went ahead and bought two more to have in case merrell decided to discontinue them. Well, after 240 miles the first pair had a hole worn through the sole on both shoes along the outside of the ball of my foot. I run on asphalt, so it's unlikely to be due to a puncture. The sole material is apparently very soft when compared to previous models of the vapor glove which I have had last consistently >600 miles as evidenced by the photos of two pairs of VG3's. The uppers look good as new and the fit is still phenomenal on the first pair which is one area that the previous VG's fell short. Enter the second pair. Despite being the same size, the second pair fits much more snug in the toe box. The toe box itself feels narrower and slightly shorter and the rubberized coating over the big toe is much more noticeable when wearing the shoe. After only a few miles I developed bruising under the toenails on my big toe that I hadn't experienced on the first pair. I've put 30 miles on them so far and the fitment is still the same as the first run. I have long been a vapor glove fanboy and sung the praises of them to anyone who would listen. I don't know that I can do that anymore with these experiences.

Great shoes for people who suffer with neuropathy

Have neuropathy? If so, these may be the shoe that you have been looking for. My boyfriend suffered nerve damage during surgery. As a result he suffers from both balance issues and neuropathy. These are by far his favorite shoes because he has enhanced feeling/feedback regardless of what type of terrain he is on which helps with his balance tremendously. I wish they were made better as the sole in the back keeps pulling away from the body of the shoe 😢. In the event that Merrell is looking for someone to stress test shoes that have barefoot feel I’ve got the guy for you!

Quality Control gets worst each year

I've been buying the Vapor Glove for now over 8 years and fell in love with them, the light weight, the response to ground to foot. But in the last 3 years the Quality Control on the shoes has deteriorated to the point I can no longer bring myself to purchase them. I purchased the last pair just a couple months ago, the tongue stitching came apart after one wear. The pair before that the sole started to separate almost immediately, and the pair before that the same issue with the separation of the sole. Its like an old girlfriend, you have found memories of them but you know that the fit no longer there and it's time to move on.

near perfection.

I am a Dad. I am an Elementary School PE teacher. I log MILES. Every day. I play tag, I run, I go up and down my dirt road with 50lbs on my back. We hike Vermont Mountains. We explore. Touch football, soccer, and parkour. These shoes are my go to if I am not barefoot. I have bought 6 pairs. They last almost a year. Doing work. I wear holes in the soles. There is no shoe I prefer more.

Extremely comfortable

I absolutely love these shoes. I have been wearing them for close to 2 years. They are like super light thin little slippers. Yet mine are hardly worn. I trail run and lift weights in these. Plus they are my favorite shoes to just wear around for a day of goofing off. The bottoms are very thin so you have to be careful of how hard and on what you step. I definitely hope to be able to buy this shoe again in the future. I just got a pair of vapor glove 6 thinking they were the 5. They are close to the same. A little more shoe like. A little less like a slipper. Not sure about the tread though.

I hope the VG 5's last longer than the VG 4's

My pair of the VG 3's lasted about 17 months. The tops were pretty badly worn and I got a small hole in the sole under one of my big toes. My pair of VG 4's lasted about 9 months. The tops were great. I got a large hole in the sole under one of my heels. The soles were much thinner on the 4's than on the 3's.
