Bulletproof and Versatile
I was torn during my shopping process between this bike and the topstone 1. I was concerned that it wouldn't be great at climbing and it wouldn't handle well on gravel. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have already put 200 miles on the bike after only two weeks of use. The bike dominates on hills, flys on tarmac, and plows through gravel. The saddle is comfortable, the shifters are easy to use, and the drivetrain is smooth. This really is an all day endurance bike. I can comfortably recommend this bike to anyone, whether for a 10 minute commute or a 9 hour endurance ride.
Beautiful Bike
I love this bike so far. I did need to put a new saddle on but other than that it’s rides really well! fits great I’m 5’8, 165lbs with very long legs and a 56 fits great! I do wish it would come with touch up pint as there was a ding in the paint when I unboxed it. Overall love the handling and it’s so beautiful.
A comfortable road bike
I got this as a birthday gift from my other half after months of going from local bike shop to local bike shop looking for a suitable endurance bike. Each time leaving disappointed that the wait would be 3months to 1 year. REI had ready stock and we were able to collect within a week. The bike is as described with 105 components mostly except for FSA crank and TRP SpyreC mechanical discs brakes. The crank works fine and I actually prefer the mechanical brakes because the housing on the shifters is significantly smaller than on ones with hydraulic brakes. The selle-cannondale saddle is good enough for long-ish rides and fit me just right without pain or strain even after 25-30miles. After comparing high end aluminum framed road bikes with affordable carbon framed bikes, I am glad I decided to go with the aluminum. Weight difference is on average 2lbs but the modern aluminum frames feel just as laterally stiff as the carbon ones in my opinion. Definitely worth the cost saving to be spent in other areas such as lighter wheels and pedals. The ride feel of this bike is confidence inspiring, granted I was switching from a hybrid bike but had ridden a few road bikes in my day. Balance is excellent and enables me to tilt into the curves at significant speed. Tires have enough grip to give you the false idea that you can take that downhill curve just a bit quicker. Looks wise-the red paint (almost a candy red in the flesh) color did turn a few heads when on the bike paths. Even though the heads turned were almost exclusively 8-10yr olds. I especially love the subtle cannondale branding in minimalist text on the top tube instead of huge lettering on the down tube. May not be for everyone but it’s classy to be subtle. Overall I would give the bike an 8/10. Almost perfectly as expected. I would spend some money on wheels and pedals from here but that’s all I would change. Cannondale did a good enough job on this one.
Great Entry-level Road Bike
Bike is extremely great on paved roads and asphalt...confidence level deeps a little on gravel so proceed with caution. However, it is capable and doable for adventure lovers. I've upgraded the wheel set to Carbon without a hitch and had to upgrade the saddle. I did have a little issue with the stock rear wheel (Bent). However, very satisfied with Cannondale Synapse thus far...
Awesome Bike with a 105 Gear Set.
I love this bike. It is everything I wanted in a new rode bike. It's comfortable and I can ride for hours. The 105 gear set is great and for a bike at this price you can't beat it. After a month of heavy riding the bike needed adjusted and "tuned".. The REI store here in Omaha took care of that at no charge to me. I did swap out the seat to a better one for me. But that is my personal preference. You might like the seat that is on it. I just wanted one with a cutout.
Nice Bike
Rides great, it's light, rides fast and shifts smooth. I'm still getting used to this bike, it's fun to ride and I would recommend it to friends. This Cannondale Synapse comes equipped with very good components.
Comfortable but with some issues
Overall a decent bike. I like how comfortable it is: it seems that the fork and frame absorb very well the little bumps and vibrations and the riding position is nice. I think the 30mm tires are also helping (I usually ride with 25mm tires). Also the gearing is ideal for rider like me that likes to climb moderately steep hills. My relatively low rating is because of the issues with the front derailleur and the brakes. The brakes are not very effective and frankly no better than the rim brakes from an old entry level road bike I have. I did adjust the cable tension and after break-in they are a bit better but still barely adequate. As for the front derailleur: it was a total mess when I picked up the bike from the store. The cable tension adjustment screw was maxed out, the cable wasn't properly routed and the support bolt that adjust the derailleur alignment wasn't set. With that, the chain was obviously rubbing pretty much all the time, regardless of the speed. I did my best to adjust it myself following the Shimano dealer's manual but even after multiple attempts it was still not perfect. I thought about returning it since I bought this bike specifically because of the Shimano 105 groupset but decided to try replacing the front derailleur first. Rather than buying the same R7000 (107) model, I gave the R8000 (Ultegra) a try. This one worked way better and I was able to properly adjust it. Still not perfect when doing extreme cross-chaining but I can live with that. As for the sizing: I am 5' 9" with 31"/32" inseam and picked up the smallest available frame (54cm) and it is ok. I think 53cm would have been better but since it is no longer available...
Stick to the roads!
I've had this bike for about a year and I can honestly say stay away from gravel roads, especially loose gravel. The bike is great on pavement and asphalt but once you go off road proceed with caution. Performance wise you won't find a better bike for long endurance rides. Train smart and train often.
Disappointed in quality
The crankset has a clicking noise. Adjustments have not resolved that. Low and high gear use comes with additional sounds, asjustments are limited per the REI mechanic. The handle bar center post plug fell out, it apears to be missing a locking nut, that maybe causing the clicking noise. The bike is a lower priced entry level road bike. A 30 mile ride has me return with a headache from the noise. I would spend extra dollars and buy a better brand.
It meets all my needs.
I really like this bike, its 100 times better then the walmart bike I was riding. I like how it handles and the weight of this bike is nice. I bike a few times a week for exercise and this bike is perfect for that.i. sure there is better bikes out there but this bike meets all my needs and i would recommend this bike for a novice rider like myself.
