I bought this purifier/filter because it actually does three different things: 1. Water storage with a tap. 2. Water filter & purifier (viruses, bacteria, protozoa & has a carbon block as well for taste) 3. Pressurized shower with the adapter. Prior to buying this I had 3 different products to do all this. Now I just carry the Jerrycan with my water in it, and I save so much space in my truck. You just need to buy the shower-head adapter to use it as a shower. Flow rate is great, and it's almost 5 gallons! Also fits in a NATO standard jerrycan carrier.
I bought the Lifesaver Jerrycan for this Memorial Day weekend's adventure and it was super easy to use and the pressure came in handy when using the water to wash dishes and fill water bottles. I’m planning on buying the shower adapter down the road for sweaty summer adventures. It stored plenty of water for the 3 day weekend for me and my partner and as an added bonus to purifying the water of bacteria and protozoa, the carbon filter (something we were adamant at finding after having some gross tasting water from competitive brands) allows for the water to taste good for drinking and cooking. Great product, super happy with the purchase!
My wife and I used this LifeSaver Jerrycan for the first time this week while car camping on the Blue River in Colorado. It is incredible! I got nearly 5 gallons of purified water ON DEMAND. It is enough for a family of four. The flow rate is excellent - we had no problems dispensing clean water for drinking, cooking, and brushing our teeth. Just like any other filter system, it has to be primed first. After that, it is ready to go. It is pretty idiot proof The Jerrycan is great for car camping, off-grid living, and as a backup for emergencies. I will purchase a second one to have at the house, and will keep this one in my SUV.
The tank walls are thick and I mean thick, so no worries about a leak. Easy to use pump and a momentary push or push and turn to stay on valve. I would recommend the spray attachment as it makes life much easier, pump up the tank, turn on the valve and use the spray nozzle for on/off. I did cover half the spray nozzle openings with tape to get a bit more pressure. ..........So now for the downside!!....... The valve seems to be the vulnerable part as you could break off the small spout. You can buy one from Lifesaver for $19.99 (not bad) but shipping from overseas is $22.99. $42.98 for a spare valve is not cheap, not to mention you would have a long wait time for a replacement part! Over all, this is the best safe water system I have found and a great purchase. Hopefully they will get some parts in the US before I do something clumsy and break the valve.
Love it. This thing will last a lifetime. Not a filter but a purifier. So if your concerned about your gut health like I am, this is a must. Great for your favorite camping spot or your Jeep or the boat. its really fast which I love. No more waiting 5 minutes or squeezing a plastic bag.
I think I was sold an open box or previously returned item because it had missing parts (spigot and piece it mounts to). There was a plastic baggie with the charcoal filter and instruction sheet. And an o-ring that was by itself unpackaged floating in the box. I hope it was just a packaging mistake. The customer rep at REI was not very helpful - I will try a different reseller. It's an expensive item that many users like. I want as well but not sure about their Quality Control process. This matters to me especially with critical gear that your well being may depend on someday.
Perfect for living in a van down by the river! Joking aside, the size is great. I can fill it instead of my freshwater tanks on short trips and it’s much easier. It’s also nice to have the filtration at camp sites and other areas that are kinda questionable. It just stops working when the filter needs replacement. Only 2 complaints - the company is based in the UK, so it would be nice to see replacement filters and accessories on REI.com. I had to order the sprayer attachment - which is amazing - from another site.
I have used this water purifier for several week long canoe trips with a party of six. It provided clean water for cooking, drinking, handwashing and cleaning without a problem. The large size meant that we had to refill only once a day. The price is small compared to an water borne issue ruining a trip. When not in use I stored it filled with tap water. You have to keep the filter wet.
I bought the 20,000uf and it leaked around the pump stem near the base. I tried customer support from Icon Lifesaver but no one replied. After reading reviews I found this to be common. The company is based in the UK so it’s costly for me to call. I bought a Hydro Blu instead. Based out of Utah.
We had a problem with leakage at the pump and finally figured out that the pump cap has a lock you engage by turning the cap counterclockwise after you are finished pumping. We love it now!
