Turns fast, big upgrade but unreliable spokes
Bought these from rei and had my local shop install. At first could believe how light they are my bike. Super fast starts compared to my stock setup on salsa warbird. Absolutely loved them for the price and than a spoke broke on a street ride. Thought hmm must of hit a stick. Broke of clean at the nut so had to pay local shop to fix and took them 3 weeks to source parts. About 40 miles later another spoke broke while riding towpath. Not sure if coincidence but apparently according to my local bike shop these bladed spokes are hard to find and expensive to replace. So wanted to love these....maybe you'll have better luck than me
Beware of this rim
Do not purchase this wheel set. Within 3 months of purchasing a bike with this exact wheel set, a spoke broke and the rear rim cracked. Clearly a poor design from Shimano for a gravel wheel.
Excellent gravel bike wheels!
I purchased the front and rear wheels to complete a gravel bike. I have ridden them over 300 miles so far on paved road, dirt roads, gravel roads, fire roads, and light singletrack. They have performed superbly well! I have mounted 700c tires between 35 and 48 mm wide, slick and knobby, and they have fit and run very smoothly. The value is tremendous in this wheelset. They feel strong and light enough that they don't interfere with performance (I have ridden everything from carbon fiber wheels to heavier aluminum ones). They have also held up well in mud and with rock strikes. Switching tires was very easy to do since I have run them with tubes so far (I may try them with a tubeless set up in the summer). They also look great – they're not flashy, but the understated graphics and color make them fit any bike. I am very happy with them and so glad that REI had them in stock when I needed them!
Avoid This Wheelset
Only buy these wheels if you like broken spokes that are impossible to find replacements for. Unfortunately the Shimano warranty is useless and I'm out a few hundred bucks. I should have checked the other reviews.
