Garmin Hits Homerun with 1030 Plus
I've owned and used the Garmin 1030 Plus bicycle computer for about 3 months now. I love it. I was using a Lyzene Mega XL previously. My initial reason for the switch was screen size, as my eyes are not what they used to be. Initial reviews were solid so I robbed a few banks and made the leap. It WAS expensive! I purchased the bundle which included the recent versions of the speed an cadence sensors. The computer was relative easy to set-up and very accurate. I log 130 miles a week on my bike, and ride with groups 90% of the time, so the navigation and training functions have not been tested.
Terrible interface/Map display
Really wanted to like this computer from everything I read before purchasing. -Maps look like something out of the 90's i.e TomTom or old mapquest. In this day and age of the types of detailed topo maps out there the garmin is joke worthy. Forget using Trailforks or Mtb project. Your location is a big blob of an arrow that looks like an old pc cursor. Simply not going to happen. There may be ways to change or load different maps if you can decipher a ton of instructions from Dc Rainmaker or elsewhere. It shouldn't be this difficult. Garmin support isn't that great either. -User interface is ridiculously clunky. Navigating for the simplest things like checking battery life is a chore. Navigating any of the settings is a chore. -Cadence sensor didn't fit on Sram Eagle Gx cranks. -If all you need are the basic stats from a ride, it works fine but you'd be better suited with a 530 or different unit from another manufacturer. -If you want to be a part of the Garmin training eco system it might be a good choice but for navigation/touring/ bikepacking/ or route finding the Edge 1030 plus is not worth the hassle.
