Sole gave up pretty quick… the front foot section wore out super quick, now the actual structure of the sole is falling apart.
I was excited when REI started selling Nike trail shoes. I had been through many pairs of the Terra Kiger, but gave them a break and switched to the Brooks Cascadia - those sadly disappointed me with how quickly they fell apart. Switching back to the Nikes I was again let down with how quickly the grip wore off. I run mountain trails in northern arizona and desert trails in phoenix… a few ten milers and these guys were done. the tops are great… the sole leaves a lot to be desired. There's a rock plate too apparently… they should perhaps call it a pebble plate.
I normally run a size 10 altra. I have wide feet so I went half size up for these and they were very comfortable. I have done several 20+ mile trail runs in these plus many shorter ones over the course of a few months and I only have one complaint: the tread on the bottom has worn away quicker than any other trail shoe I have ever used. it has good grip but a trail shoe needs to be way more durable
I've ran in previous versions, not too much of an update over the Kiger 5's but still a solid shoe, decent comfort, above average traction, and feels quick with some nice energy return on all terrain. I'd prefer a little bit less of a drop and a little more stability confidence, but it's a strong shoe.
Poor quality control. Shoes don't match. Top fabric perforations are mismatched and inner socks are different sizes. OK for trails but very slippery on city pavements. Dangerously so. Avoid metal grates at all costs. Nice and cool with many top perforations but mud and small stones aren't held back and sit on top of the inner fabric foot sock and not easily flushed out. Have to keep taking them off to bang out the debris. Insole is glued to shoe at what seems to be a single spot at the ball of your foot. Haven't tried pulling it off yet but debris gets underneath. I'm a bit worried the insole won't go back properly if I detach it. Better trail shoes out there. These are overpriced for what they are.
I recently purchased these for an upcoming hiking vacation in western Colorado. Dry conditions/light weight shoes were the needs. So far I have worn them on a 1 mile walk around the neighborhood and also wore them the entire next day. These shoe run very true to size, perfect for my narrow feet. I wore them with a pair of Darn Tough wool socks for the walk and a pair of normal ankle socks the next day. The tongues are thin but comfortable, with padded material running down the middle. The shoes seem solid but flexible. I will write another review when I get from CO.
LOVE IT - I used to love the Speed Goat, but this shoe is something.
Those worried about buying these shoes, stop! Buy them. I don’t normally write reviews but omg these are awesome. I don’t do much trail running but have used these for long distance hikes, +15 miles. They will take some time to break in. At first I hated these shoes, they felt very tight and were numbing my toes, I was stumbling and tripping every few minutes. BUT after 2 miles i finally broke into the shoe and they felt amazing. My feet felt roomy, no more stumbling or rolling my ankle, they felt very stable and would grip on all surfaces. I’ve used them to hike Mt. Whitney and other mountain peaks and they are my all time favorite footwear now! will be buying another pair since I’ve already put over 100miles on these bad boys.
I've had these shoes for almost a year so I've had the chance to fully test them. While they are lightweight and look good, they are not for serious trail running. They lack a proper rock plate which has caused me multiple injuries, cushioning is suboptimal, toe protection is non-existent, and have a low heel drop, which makes your muscles do more work and can cause potential issues. The grip is great when new, but it quickly wears out. If you're looking to do some serious trail running and want to avoid injuries, look elsewhere.
These caught my eye while looking for something sleek and a bit rugged. Most shoes from Nike fit my flat feet too tightly, and don't provide appropriate support. These covered it all, from looks to comfort. Good amount of space in toe box and mid-sole does not squeeze my feet. Wouldn't buy these if looking for everyday wear, but will definitely add to rotation on days running between ball games with my kids. Looking to buy a different color to add to my collection!
