Fantastically warm but the zip is trash

I love this coat and for the current sale price it cannot be beaten for warmth. I agree with other reviews that the main zip is trash. I have no idea why there’s not a double zip. In the two weeks I’ve had this it has come undone at the bottom maybe 5 or 6 times. I have to unzip it if driving or else it can’t deal. I’m not big either (5’8”, 155lbs) and have plenty of room in a size Small of this coat. My partner has basically the same coat but in the ladies version and it has a much heavier-duty two-way zip. Why did Columbia skip on this on the mens cut? For the price, I just bought my own zip and took it to the tailors to be replaced for something better.

I bought this since it said it has a 2 way zipper. It does not. Otherwise, it looked and felt like a nice coat.

Do not buy this

I bought one of these because it seemed to be just what I was looking for. But after 4 uses the front zipper got permanently stuck (after temporarily getting stuck most times I used it). So I returned it and got a new one, thinking that I had gotten one which was defective. I was wrong, the new one also had a front zipper that stopped working in short order.

Love this parka

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I live in North Dakota and have had the opportunity to wear this parka in -20 weather and also in -15 with 35 mph winds weather. It performed quite nicely. I like the outer fabric. It is soft even when cold. It doesn't get stiff. What I don't like about the parka: It needs a two way zipper, It needs a waist cinch that pulls in from the outer layer (that way if you wear bib overall snow pants you can adjust), it needs larger sleeves and cuffs, and it needs to have the reflective lining on the sides too. Only the main body, front and rear, have it. Columbia makes two other heavy parkas. Maybe they have these features. I would definitely buy this again. I love it.

Great Product. Great Price

Purchased this for my early morning trail hikes in my area of North Texas. It may surprise many to hear that temperatures do regularly drop below freezing in the winter in many parts of TX, but I digress. I can now go for my morning hikes in the cold, and windy conditions we get often. A bonus that this is waterproof. Went hiking in 20F this morning, and I was toasty in this jacket. We're expecting 12F tomorrow, and I'll layer up, and head out with confidence in this jacket. As for fit, this jacket runs large. Usually, I wear size L, but I ordered size M for this jacket, and it fits perfectly, leaving plenty of room for layering. I'm 5'11, athletic build, 197lbs.

Finally warm!

Was looking for a warm but light weight coat and not only found it but found it for under $200! Lots of pockets and very wind resistant. The hood is awesome and the fur is removable. Have another Columbia coat that’s 10 years old and love it but this one is for the polar vortex for sure!! You will not be disappointed!!

Horrible Zipper

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved the look of this coat and it's warm when it has a functioning zipper. For such an expensive coat, the zipper is very poor quality. I have light jackets from inexpensive stores that have heavier gauge zippers. The last parka I owned lasted for for 20 years, and even when the coat was worn, the zipper still functioned. A coat should last at least 4 months! This was my first purchase and I am Very Disappointed!

Very Warm and Weather Resistant

I bought this parka in the early Fall before it gets cold daily here in Oregon. I LOVE IT. Oregon gets TONS of rain and a little snow on average. Last week we had the mother of all winter storms, an ice storm. This parka kept me nice and warm in temperatures down into the teens. It also kept me dry, which is very important. The only thing I don't like about it is the faux fur. Which you can take off and I do. It gets too drippy wet in heavy rain and with it off the hood doesn't come as far down on my forehead as I would like. I think Columbia should ditch the faux fur all together. But aside from that it is virtually the perfect Winter weather parka for staying warm and dry.

Warm but not suitable for camping or backpacking

Warm, but I stuffed it in my backpack once and the sleeve stitching burst open.

Used this for our Alaska Wedding. It was perfect! We got married in a glacier. I wore a white Columbia coat and he wore this black one. It was the perfect 'traditional colors' and something we will keep and use for years to come!
