A little small and not very warm.
Upgraded to these for winter riding. The features are good: velcro closure, pull loop, split fingers, leather palm. But using the recommended sizing, they will barely fit a liner glove, which was both necessary and insufficient, as these gloves only have enough insulation to keep my hands warm to about 25 degrees F (with liner). Not really any better than the gloves they were supposed to be replacing. If you want to use a liner glove, size up. If you want something to keep hands warm below 25F, you need something beefier. Above that, you should be okay.
Perfect!
Finally no frozen fingers! I have tried many different gloves and still end up with cold and painful fingers. I guess im getting old too but man it is so frustrating to endure super cold fingers. These gloves are amazing. The true test was today and thats what prompted me to write this reciew. 12 degrees in Colorado on my normal bike commute to work. Not a suoer long ride, only about 3 miles. Hands and fingers were conpletely fine. I am super happy with these. No more discomfort. Dont hesitate. I think you will be very pleased.
Really warm - almost too warm
As with the review I just wrote for the AmFIB gel winter gloves, I marvel at how different people are. I don’t typically have trouble keeping my hands warm, which is fortunate as I live in Minnesota where cycling outside in the spring and fall requires routinely coping with temperatures in the 20-40F range. I took theses gloves out today for a test ride on a sunny day with temperatures in the 25-30F range and winds howling at 20-30 mph. In these conditions, I actually found them to be a bit too warm. The insulation is significant and they did an excellent job of blocking the wind. My hands were noticeably sweaty after a 90-minute ride at moderate pace in spite of the cold and windy conditions. The fit was good for me. I normally wear XL in gloves and the XL was Goldie locks just right for me. On thing that did bother me – I routinely ride with hand positions where my index finger is separated from my other three fingers. The lobster claw design prevents that and I had to make some adjustments. I guess I can get used to that as I probably won’t wear these gloves that often, given their temperature range for me seems to be about 15-30 F, which I will see occasionally in MN in the late fall and early spring.
Not sure they are worth the price
I find these work down to 30F. At 30F my thumbs get cold, and at 25F fingers get cold too. This is only 15 minutes in to my ride. This isn't that much better than some 5-finger Eddie Bauer gloves that I have. For the price, I expected better results.
Lobster Claws are the way to bike in the cold!
REI crew noted me pondering several non-standard cold weather gloves. "OH, you are BIKING in this weather. You want these 'Lobster Claws', he says. And he was RIGHT. 2 hours. 27 degrees F. Warm fingers. Satisfied customer. Help like this keeps me coming back.
Good for cold weather mountain biking
Bought these for winter mountain biking. I have had a really hard time keeping my hands warm on cold weather days. I have used these down to 20 degrees and they were much better than my traditional style gloves. My thumb still got cold though. Fit is good. Still able to shift and brake with the split fingers. I think the leather is a bit soft though so question how long they will last. Also used a leather protective treatment on them, hoping to make them more waterproof / snow proof and last longer.
Awkward seam...but warm.
First, these were plenty warm, but the seam for the thumb cuts across the palm and it's just this side of painful, like when your shoes are a little too small. I also found these ran small.
Good as it gets...
These are good, but I could stand more warmth. I admit to being a little old lady with no body fat who doesn't push too hard. Still they are better than two similar pairs (other brands) that I returned.
Size runs small
I have not worn these yet so score could go higher to 5 stars. I wanted to comment asap on size as it was my biggest concern. I measured my hand as prescribed right at 8". I ordered the medium size 8-8.75" and they just fit. If my hand were any bigger I'd consider moving up a size (also accommodate silk liner gloves for instance). The inside of the gloves are made of a very soft material and the leather outers are soft as well. I'm looking forward to testing them on the trails!
Overpriced for what they are, materials degrade
Yes these are biking gloves, but I bought for the 20/21 winter snowboarding season. Way too overpriced, i wouldve been happy if these were in the $40 range, but these do not last especially if they get wet. They are not very warm, and id recommend other gloves for temps below 30F. The “touch screen” material started to wear off on the finger tips within the first couple months, which was a bummer, they rarely work anymore except for the thumbs sometimes. The velcro straps also catch on the outside glove material, fraying everything and making it so the glives dont even cinch down properly anymore. Also the material on the outside thumbs is peeling off, and i have no idea why, it looks like chemical burns (??).
