Alaskan approved. Don't think, just buy.

Super breathable for long, sweaty tours in Alaska. Stretchier than you think they'd be. I also wore these dog mushing and was warm with them just over a single base layer, so they definitely have some wind-blocking properties. Bonus: made my butt look great. For reference, I'm 5'5" / 135 lbs and ordered a M.

Great touring pants

These have a great fit- not too tight, not too loose. They are very lightweight so good for spring days too. The cuffs just barely fit over my Zero G boots in tour mode however, and I wish the beacon pocket was more secure like my old Mission pants. In avalanches, clothing can get torn and pockets can get ripped off- I like how the old style pants had an actual harness in the pocket that attaches to the waist belt. I like keeping my beacon in the pocket because it keeps it away from my radio and other gear when ski patrolling. The pockets could also be an inch or two higher, but overall I really like them and I sort of want them in purple now too!

Piling

I bought these in Carbon and was really excited because they’re light, move well and are well thought out in function. I’m a 30 in waist/40 in hips and the large is nice and roomy but I cinch the waist quite a bit, maybe could have gone medium. Unfortunately the lightweight fabric on the pockets and thighs started piling within a few uses and after a couple weeks of daily use and now they look like a pair of cheap sweats. It’s not a place where my backpack rubs so there’s not a ton of friction, not sure how it’s even happened. My husband has had the men’s version of these for over a year in black and doesn’t have any piling. Slightly disappointing.

Not very durable, but good design.

So frustrating! I wish these pants were more durable because I love the fit and design over all! I have had these for just under 2 months and they already have pilling on the upper thigh material and a cut in the reinforced section at the bottom. I'm disappointed because I haven't put them through too much yet. I have been using them primarily for heli skiing and backcountry ski touring in Alaska. The beacon pocket, gusseted pockets, vent placement and overall fit are amazing, I just wish they would have lasted more than a month and a half before noticeable wear and tear. Definitely disappointing because I love BD products.

Not for gals with butts

I was so excited to get these pants for ski touring! I sweat like crazy and really wanted a pair of lightweight, touring pants, but with waterproofing where it's needed. Sadly, these fit me like those awful flare jeans from the early 2000s. I'm 5'9, 180lbs with athletic thighs and a round booty. These look so absurd on. Tight through the butt and thighs and then balloon through the rest of my legs. I know these are a slim fit, but I expected more of a straight leg, not flare. Also, they're a bit thinner than I anticipated. The XL would be way too loose in the waist and too long in the legs. Will sadly be returning. If you're pear-shaped like me, these might not work for you.

Amazing and versatile!

I originally purchased these pants for the backcountry and have ended up wearing for a number of outdoor activities including Nordic skiing. The pants are light weight and dry quickly, with with an extra layer of protective fabric in all the right places. The pockets are very well placed with a beacon pocket within reach of your right hand pocket, stash pockets on the front of the thighs and zips on everything. The waist band sits high and is fastened with two small snaps and a zip and belt. I am 5'5 approx. 165 lbs and ordered a large but could have easily gotten into a medium which would be my normal size.

Great so far

Have only worn them twice but so far I like these pants. I love that the thigh pockets are gusseted to open *out* to give room for electronics and other bulky items. I like that the waist sits right on top of my hip bones so the pants actually stay up and don't gap. My one complaint would be that the pants still fit pretty snug around the thigh and butt (my measurements are right in the middle of the suggested range for the size too). Form fitting isn't needed in this item and more room for movement and layering would be appreciated.

Versatile pants

I've only had these a few weeks but have been able to use them touring as well as just banging around town in cold weather. I am 5'6" 140lbs and went with the medium. They are a little big around the butt and thighs but I wanted to be able to wear thicker layers underneath for cold days at the ski hill. They are going to be my do everything pants. Great pockets on the front of legs for stashing stuff, good vents, like the gaiters. Just solid all around pants with clean simple lines. A classic.

Finally!!!

I have been wanting a mapped, hybrid pant for days out touring. I like the comfort of soft shell but some days you need more water resistance in certain areas. This pant feels even lighter than the original Dawn Patrol pant and has the same fit. Plus, they finally added a beacon pocket to the womens version of the pant. I have been living in these this season so far and live them.

Hybrid ski pants

I ordered these but had to return them due to sizing issues. I hadn’t used them but they were lightweight and what I’m looking for in a backcountry ski pant -breathable but some gortex in the places that matter. But they are very long. I’m 5’2” and cannot find a a good backcountry pant made for shorter women. These were a good 4-5 inches too long.
