Peace of mind!
While I personally don't think these are ABSOLUTELY necessary, it sure gives us a little extra peace of mind having these installed.
This is a serious kayak!
I have done extensive kayaking in the Pacific NW and a kayaking guide to Yellowstone/Teton NPs and thought I’d try an ORU after seeing a couple on a local lake here in CO. Bought the Bay ST and have to say it is a true kayak in that it paddles efficiently, tracks well for a 12’ boat, leans nicely. I really do like it. It is so nice to put it in my vehicle and set it up so quickly. Now for the open water model!
Coast xt with sprayskirt and gel seat
Oustanding Kayak, took it out on the Willamette river (Oregon) 45 degrees before wind chill, 3 foot swells and chop, 20 knot winds with 30 knot gusts. Handled it like a champ. Sprayskirt kept me warm and dry. Seat kept me comfortable. Float bags gave me the security that if I did take on water (I didn't, not a drop) that the kayak would be completely recoverable. Couldn't be happier with the kayak.
They work
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These float bags do their job. Nothing crazy but seem fairly durable and hold air. I do wish they had a one way valve or something for inflating. It’s annoying when they’re almost full and the air comes rushing out as your trying to fill them up.
Float bags
Seems like a no brainer to buy them as it protects my investment should there be an error in operator judgement or navigation. I hope to never tip it over but did learn good advice. Never paddle any father off shore than you plan to swim. :-)
Could be manufactured to fit bettet
I have not used these on the water yet but I did do a dry run to check the fit and, if fully inflated, they push the bulkhead out of place. This is both front and back. And, yes, I did get the "correct" float bags for the Inlet kayak.
Hi Jon! We appreciate your feedback and will certainly take it into consideration. We are committed to improving our accesories and ensuring that they meet your expectations. In the meantime, we recommend not fully inflating them to ensure the best experience. Thank you for your support!
Great Idea for Oru-Kayak
The set up for the float bags worked great on my Beach LT and gave some peace of my as I took my first paddle. I bought a second set for my Pungo12 and once again I have some extra piece of mind as I go on my longer kayak trips.
Hard to tell how much to inflate them
I can't inflate them fully, otherwise they'll grow too big and loosen up the bow and stern of the inlet. I have to take my best guess at how much to inflate them, and then hope that it's enough in case I need the flotation.
Hi Matthew, we want the best experiences for our customers, We'll be more than glad to reach out to you via email and assist you :)
Pros and cons
Easy to blow up but the orange twist cap is not efficient at keeping the air in the float, you have to tie the black tube in a knot to prevent the air from escaping, needs to be reengineered to create a tighter lock seal
Good
Safety is worth the investment. I would suggest a strip of Velcro on each bag to attach to the kayak. Unsecured bags could get lost in a flip, rendering them useless.
