This is a different experience. It's like gloves vs mittens. I used that title because not only did I sleep in this bag, it kept me warm at the campfire on a chilly night. PROS: I liked that I could roll around to turn at night instead of wiggling inside a sleeping back. Like I mentioned, it's mobile. The feet zip off!!! Plus, I found the zips to be easy to zip and unzip. This bag comes in nice, different colors; it's good to have choices. CONS: I'm 5'8" and this called for a large to fit my height. But I'm slim so there was too much fabric around me and it made for a very bulky bag. Perhaps another dimension in sizing would be great. Overall, this is a great concept and a nice alternative to the sleeping bag.
This thing is cozy but also quite bulky and heavy, making it quite comical to wear but definitely too big for backpacking. Perfect for car camping (with a sleeping pad or bed) in warmer temps, or great for just lounging at home on a cold night. Two areas that could be improved in my opinion: 1. I’m 5’9” and a large was a little tight in the crotch area when sleeping, limiting mobility—not sure how long the stitching will last?, and 2. As a man, the zipper could zip down a few more inches to facilitate going #1. Otherwise, you have to take it off your shoulders and lower it, which is kind of a hassle. I’ll mainly be using this to watch tv and nap on the couch on cold days...it’s PERFECT for that.
Really fun product that is comfortable and convenient. For 2-3 weeks, I'd grab it to put on during dog walks, working in the garage/yard, and lounging inside/outside. It's easy to put on, very spacious fit, and love the foot booties and hand covers. Would be fantastic to car camp with at the campfire. However, it is not a "high performance" product. It's stuffed size is very large, so you would never want to take it out in the backcountry with you. I am 5'4 female and the Medium was nearly too baggy. Fun gear, would make a great gift.
The Selk'Bag Original 6G Wearable Sleeping Bag is what I wished my regular sleeping bad did years ago! The ability to stay warm, but maintain mobility, and walk around is great. Instead of snuggling in a blanket being cold, I lay around in this bag. Warm as a toasty marshmallow over a camp fire. Pros: Warm mobility Over-hand "mittens" On-off zippable booties Hood Cons: Kangaroo pouch only has padding near the body and not on the outside, leaving hands chillier than they need to be. But, it's not too bad if you put the "mitten covers" over the hands and then in the kangaroo pocket. Recommendation: make sure the sizing is right. I'm a 5'7" 145lb female and the large is perfect. The large is too small for someone who is 6'0, size up in that case.
This bag is very warm, almost too warm. It fits well over clothing so that at low temps you don't have to strip down and freeze while doing it. The gloves and booties zip off so that you can walk around camp with it on if necessary. The downside is bulk and weight. Even with a compression bag this is too large to fit in a pack and weighs too much for backpacking use. I use mine for car camping and carry it in a duffel bag. Within its limitations, it is a great product. It is also very expensive for what you get. That said, it works and works well for me.
The selkbags are super fun and warm. I got it for a camping trip we had with our family and let me tell you, I was the envy of everyone. I usually suffer with cold feets, but after a couple of minutes slipping on it, problem solved. It kept me really warm at night in mid 30's degree weather. During the day when temps rose , I would remove the upper half and tie the arms around my waist until it was hot enough . Really excited to try it out this winter. Of course now, everyone is getting one after they saw me warm and toasty on our trip.
The Selk sleeping bag is a different kind of sleeping experience. The bag is more like an insulated suit. I am a sleeper who tosses and turn and the bag kept up. I felt much warmer than in my regular bag but the temps were not that cold. My hands in particular which I like to sometime put under my head were much easier to find a good place and not get cold. I tried the bag in 30 degree weather and worked well. The only issue I had was, I like to change into my sleep clothes in my sleeping bag which was not an option in the the Selk
I recently used the Selk bag in 30 degree weather in the Pacific NW. The bag did not keep me as warm as I would have liked. It was perfect for sitting outside with friends around a fire. I liked that you could remove the feet and walk around with your regular shoes. I also liked the pockets. I think this bag will be perfect in the warmer summer months. I am definitely looking forward to getting more use of this bag in the summer months. I recommend buying a size up as it gives you more room.
Overall, I rate this as average as good/just above average. Pros: -For a stomach sleeper the freedom to move is excellent. -Anyone that doesn't like the contraining feel of a bag will like this product. -Fits comfortable. I am 5'10" and had the extra large which was a bit too big but not a detractor. -Great to get up in the night and utilize the side zipper for the inevitable having to go to the bathroom. -Access and pockets were good. Cons: -It is a bit heavy and not something I would take on a long hike/trip. -Primary reason I rate as good is that I woke up cold and checked the temp and it was 47 degrees. In the 50s when I went to sleep it was fine and so a bit disappointed that at 47 I was cold. However, I think a light base layer would compensate and increase the temperature rating.
I got this suit for a specific trip that ended up being canceled. Bummer. So I used it to walk the dog during an artic blast and it worked well. I feel like it's the lounge wear for camping or hanging out outdoors. I like it for campfire or stargazing or those outdoor movies. It has great cozy feeling and I'm sure more uses than I tried it for but I will use it again!
