This is an excellent mat! If you want to camp in a tent yet, sleep like you are at home in your own bed, then this is the mat for you! We had a two person tent that was small so two mats didn’t fit in it. I loved that tent! But we couldn’t part with the mats since we knew we were gonna get great sleep on these. We bought a three person tent and are thrilled for our sleeping arrangements. We are in our 50’s and 60’s, overweight, and these mats are perfect for us! We camped in 35 degree weather and the mat was warm all night! Good chunk of cash, but definitely worth every penny! You will NOT regret buying these if you are seeking great sleep while camping!
I already have the Exped MegaMat 10, which has served me well for several summers. Last September, I saw the 15 and thought it would add another level of comfort. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try it out until last week and sadly, it was a dismal failure. No matter how much air I put in it, it slowly leaked out, until I just gave up and slept for 4 nights on the caved in mess that it was. I was hoping to do an exchange for a non-defective one. Nope. My money was refunded and it was suggested I could order a new one online, for $100 more than I originally paid. Disappointed in both the sleeping pad and REI.
In the past camping has been a nightmare because of how uncomfortable sleeping mats generally are. No longer! This Exped mat saved my hips, shoulders and generally everywhere else that sleeping on the ground typically makes ache. For reference I am a curvy 5'4" 180lb side sleeper. It fit perfectly in my one person tent and was easy to both inflate and deflate. If patience is observed while deflating, it is not difficult to put back into the stuff sack...but it is bigger then when factory packaged. I never imagined myself saying this but I actually look forward to sleeping in my tent, the comfort level is that amazing! If you are on edge about purchasing I say "Go for it." I found that this mat was worth every penny.
We got these sleeping mats and they have changed our camping experience. My husband and I love our memory foam bed, so camping always felt like a let down in the morning, sore joints etc. Not any more! We have slept on these mats camping and wake up refreshed. I’ve slept on this mat when it gets hot and I need to sleep in the basement or when we are at a hotel and need an extra bed. I got the exped Widget pump and it blows up the mattress with no effort and very little time. We also got the REI platforms recently and we tried out the combo in our garage and it works perfectly - can’t wait to try it out! We have a big enough tent (Sierra Designs) for these 2 mattresses on platforms plus another room for our daughter. Even while folded up, they do take up a lot of room in the car, but it’s worth it if you don’t want to sacrifice your sleep quality to enjoy being outdoors.
I travel a lot for work and sometimes my plan to make it home turns into being too tired to keep driving. Many times this happens early in the morning with no hotels around. Even if there is a hotel, the process of booking a room, checking in, getting to bed at 3am when you have 2 hours of drive time left and just need a quick nap, isn’t a good use of time or money. After way too many nights taking naps in the car and being frustrated with cheap big box air mattress’s leaking and causing back pain, I started looking for a better solution that would fit in the back of a SUV. This rabbit hole of research led me to this pad. Not only is it night and day more comfortable and durable, I sleep better on this than I do my bed at home! I went with the 6” tall version since weight wasn’t an issue and figured if I was going to spend top dollar I’d go all in and get the thickest, plushiest option available. It definitely doesn’t disappoint and I find myself looking for excuses to sleep on it. I no longer worry about if I’m going to make my drive home or my next destination and run the risk of falling asleep while driving. At the first yawn, I’m pulled over in a safe spot and curled up on this pad smiling myself to sleep. I’ve since starting using it for everything else imaginable, guests, camping, in the camper on the twin bed platform, on the floor or a hotel room instead of the worn out bed…if I’m not at home, I’m sleeping on this pad. I would buy it again without a second thought, it really is worth every penny.
Fantastic bed. The best. so comfortable and easy to use
I have 6 mats, this one is by far my favorite. I also have the Exped Megamat 10, which I also adore (and two less expensive thermarests, a big Agnes, and a sea to summit) and I thought I could inflate this one all the way like I do the Exped 10, but I actually have to take some pressure out of it even though I'm 200+ lb in order to get that incredibly plush feel. I don't know that it's more comfy than the 10, but it self inflates easier since you probably don't need it to reach max volume so no need to top it off. And it doubles well as a guest mattress or a portable mattress when visiting others (way better than an air mattress given it's insulation and puncture resistance, and has more height than exped 10.) I LOVE IT. It's def a car camping mat, so don't be surprised by it's pack size. You'll have a great night's rest, no question.
This is way better than any sleeping mat or air mattress I've ever slept on. Self inflates with no need for an outlet or even a battery operated pump. Then you can make it firmer or softer to get it exactly right. I was afraid it would be too narrow, but the 30" width was great even when I turned over in the night. I slept on it camping for 3 nights and never had to add more air. It's not super small when rolled up, but took up less space than I expected considering how thick it is when fully inflated. Overall, I highly recommend. Worth every penny.
I was trying to decide between Exped and HEST which is $400 and Exped definitely won. The width makes all the difference since I'm a side sleeper and I take my 65lb dog with me. I'm 6ft tall 185lb. Had the best night of sleep on it for sure. My dog fits great in the bottom corner (i just cover that area with a blanket so she doesn't tear it). Used it a few times for car camping in my Forester and it fit great with front seats pushed as far as possible.
I love this mat as a comparison to the other Exped sleeping pads as it's thickness helps keep my shoulders off the ground. This ones not seeing as much use as the previous mattress but I can attest to its durability as I'm heavier compared to the other mattresses user. There's no issue in getting the firmness level, and I've not experienced any feelings of being enveloped when turning over due to weight being along a line. Do yourself a favor and get a few of these as they'll be preffered for camping.
