I am a side sleeper and I bough the pad for getting some comfort when I sleep in my SUV before many climbs. I love the thing, it is as good as most mattresses you'd find at home. The first night I received the thing, I blew it up and laid down on it and fell asleep immediately, I have used it many times throughout the winter both sleeping in my SUV and sleeping in tents, the R value is awesome and for car camping it is an awesome pad. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a warm and comfy pad. I also impressed with it that I am thinking about getting the double for when my wife comes camping with me, or if we had a guest that needed a place to sleep and we were short a bed.
We car camp but the past several trips have been so uncomfortable on other foam hybrid or air mattress setups. After a lot of research I gave the Exped MegaMat Max a try and my whole perspective changed. I took advice from another review and bought two singles and used the Universal Coupling Straps to join together. This allowed custom firmness and no movement translation between mats. I might have doubts about camping in bear active areas after being woken by a bear sniffing outside our tent (no food to had) but I never for a second doubted the comfort of this mat. Absolutely worth the investment.
I have tried several car camping sleeping pads and this one works best for me. I am a side sleeper and generally have a hard time sleeping well while camping. I had a hest foamy before this and would wake up frequently with numb shoulders, a sore back and sore hips. I think the megamat works better because I can adjust the firmness to my liking.
This is an incredibly comfortable sleeping pad for car camping. I was using the Sea to Summit comfort plus but this pad, while much larger to pack, offered much better sleep. I’ve used it twice now and slept great both times. I highly recommend a small portable air pump to fill and some patience to deflate. I only wish Exped would restock stores with their fitted sheet. I picked up a Hest LW sheet and it fits but just barely.
Unquestionably the most comfortable sleeping pad available. Self inflates well with only a minimal amount of topping off necessary. It is bulky when packed but that's unavoidable, given it's size. I used during a 7 day bike ride and slept as well as I do at home.
This mat is amazing. Obviously not a backpacking mat but great for car camping and raft trips. The most comfortable mat I’ve ever used. Will use when grandkids stay over.
