These shoes have quickly become my go-to shoes for day hikes and beyond! They are much lighter than they look like they’ll be, and the grip is fantastic! Slick New England rocks no longer slow me down on the trail, and neither do slick leaves thanks to the treads. The fit is like a sock, keeping my foot from sliding around inside the shoe so no twisted ankles!!! Order a size larger than your normal size for a comfortably snug fit, especially if you want to accommodate thicker socks.
This is a well made shoe. These are great for colder climates or approaches that include water obstacles. In hot and humid conditions, they can get a little sweaty and more difficult to take on and off due to the "sock" lining at the ankle, but again, this is a great plus for colder weather.
I'm no shoe expert, but I've finally found a low profile, lightweight, breathable shoe for hiking that doesn't look silly. Is it a waste that I use these for hiking and not really for climbing/approach? Yes. But when I say I have been trying so. many. shoes. that fit the above criteria I mean it. It's been a journey to find ones that have everything I need. I don't usually have such a hard time finding shoes, but a lot of the shoes/trail runners I tried ran so narrow that my inner foot would be spilling off the edge (even if people told me that was ok, or that their shoes do that too, I didn't want that bc it felt like I had to step weird to "fit" the shoe), or the shoe would look really ugly and fit ok (if the fit were incredible I could overlook ugly shoes), or they would seem fine initially but after hikes I would have crazy blisters. These are the ones. I usually wear a women's 9, but I got a 9.5, so would recommend sizing up
First I'll say these shoes are extremely comfortable. I sized up a full size for comfort, most of the time my approaches are hiking/scrambling, I didn't need a climbing fit. I wore them on a single trip to Joshua Tree. On my last day, I'd thought I'd take on a v0 foot jam in my approach shoes. The band that holds the laces in place snapped and the shoe lace was to the core. I think it's reasonable to expect a more durable approach shoe; but maybe these are only for the approaches and not the climbs. I'll give it credit for it's hikeability and comfort.
These are my first ever approach shoe and I'm in love. I took them on the first spin in a slot canyon and they did better then my expectations. I also wore them on a walk in the rain, in the city and my feet didn't get wet, I was surprised. Cons- they don't stayed tied very well, and I don't like my shoes tight while I hike, so leaves me with no length in the laces to double knot. The "sock" like top part is kinda annoying. I would totally buy these again and recommend to friends. I'm typically a 9.5 or 10....glad I went to a 10, they fit perfectly.
The Mission LT Approach Shoe is a very comfortable shoe with breathable uppers that stood up to hiking in the Florida heat. While not advertised as being waterproof they kept my feet dry when caught in a lengthy down pour and then dried very quickly. They have a sock like fit and adjustable lacing that allows a custom fit and keeps your foot stable on uneven terrain. They are stiff but with enough cushion to be comfortable after even a few hours of wearing. The rubber soles are sticky even on wet surfaces and on rocks providing great traction. Overall I found the various features these technical shoes provide a better option than wearing my trail running shoes for hiking and walking on uneven terrain or trails. The only downside was the sizing as they run very small requiring me to size up a whole size to get the correct fit. They are also difficult to get on due to the sock like fit but once on they're good to go.
These shoes are wonderful! I sized up a half size because I knew I wanted them roomier than a typical climbing shoe.... they are perfect. Traction on the sole is great and the toe is reinforced for bouldering, hiking, scrambling, etc. Even though they're more of an approach shoe, I've found myself pulling them on to run errands, walk to my community garden and more. I started wearing them straight out the box and never looked back.... comfortable, waterproof, great traction.
I loved these shoes right of the box, which is unusual for me. They stick great, and they are are a huge upgrade from my running shoes. The round laces don't stay tied, so make sure to double loop them. The biggest bummer is after only a week of approaches there are small holes on top of the toe box where the rubber meets the fabric. I did not climb in them, only hike, so hopefully they will continue the rubber further across and that will improve their durability.
Great shoes for hiking in Arizona especially on loose rock.
These were comfortable straight out of the box, with no rubbing or hot spots. They're light-weight and stylish, easily transitioning from outdoor to indoor activities, making them a great travel shoe. THey were really easy to clean up after hiking in the mud with just a little water, a brush, and a rag. I wore them on a few moderately difficult trails up to 4 hours long. The trails were narrow and uneven - not wide groomed trails. The shoes performed equally well on dry, wet, muddy, and rocky terrain. There were a few small rocky sections to climb up & down and even when wet my feet didn't slip in spots where other shoes would. The tread of the sole isn't as beefy as what I normally wear on the trail but that made no difference in performance. The sock-like booty design around the ankle kept debris from getting into the shoe, which I really liked. I ran some parts of the trail and even though these are a little stiffer than some trail runners they were comfortable to run in. The rubber construction that comes up over the sides of the toe box offered more protection on the uneven terrain. The over all design keeps the foot nice and stable in the shoe without being too tight. Often with trail runners my foot moves around in the shoe on uneven terrain and the ball of my foot gets sore - no so with these. I'm definitely more than satisfied with these shoes and their performance. I'd like to see how they perform for backpacking.
