Saris  MP1 Nfinity Bike Trainer Platform

This product is not available.

Side-to-side movement isn't new, but it also doesn't capture the natural movement you experience outdoors. The Saris MP1 with Nfinity tech moves the way you do by adding the fore/aft axis to the mix.

Quality Issue

I have initially purchased on May 16, 2020 and the product was delivered on May 20, 2020(Lot ID#:9789T-20112-SA, QC Check by HR). I have opened the box and I have noticed that brown plastic roller/bearings in the middle back of the platform that supports the moving rod in the middle was broken. The merchant has agreed to send me a replacement which I have received on June 19(Lot ID#:9789T-20154-SA, QC Check by HR). I was shocked to find out that the product has arrived broken in the same area which is part of the brown plastic roller/bearings in the middle back of the platform that supports the moving rod in the middle(see crack2). I have reached out again to the merchant and they have agreed to send me a replacement which I have received on June 27(Lot ID#:9789T-20154-SA, QC Check by HR, Saris has used the same Lot ID for this product). Unfortunately, the product has came damaged in the same area again. The product is brand new and unused and as this was the third time that I have received same damaged product, I am afraid that this is not an isolated quality issue and Saris needs to address it immediately. I have contacted Saris by email, but I was unsuccessful at getting any reply. The product is priced at $1200 and it's unbelievable how Saris is not committing to the quality of the product. The idea of the product is good, but there is clearly a manufacturing issue as the company is going through initial stage of product delivery. Saris should recall all the product and resolve the issue at hand. For consumers interested in buying this product, I would encourage you to wait and see if Saris can resolve this issue.

Makes indoor cycling comfortable

This item is really expensive and super heavy. But, it makes indoor cycling very realistic and far more comfortable. It’s so heavy it feels like it will last forever and it’s functioned perfectly.

Makes riding indoors more bearable

I have ridden indoors during the winter for many years. I always struggle with the boredom and the discomfort of a stationary bike/trainer. In the Fall I purchased the Saris MP1 trainer platform along with the H3 trainer. The platform makes a significant positive difference with regard to comfort since it allows one to move in a similar way to riding outdoors. To help with boredom, I installed a large TV monitor and use Fulgaz videos. Still not as nice as riding outdoors, but definitely a big improvement to my previous indoor set up.

not actually like riding outside but closer

The upside to this is that you get more normal hip flexor biomechanics, ie your leg can extend through the full range of motion like outdoors while on a static trainer your hips might be bouncing up and down more on your saddle. This is great. Also you get some back and forth action when you stand up and pedal which is also more realistic than having no motion at all. Where things go wrong is in the harder efforts like sprints. If you’re not a strong sprinter then maybe this affects you minimally, but even with sustained standing climbs the movement is unnatural. The problem is that outside your arms are pulling on the bars in an opposing motion to your legs which helps you gain leverage for pedaling. On the Saris your arms have to fight the resistance of the spring which usually isn’t going to be perfectly opposed to whatever force you’re putting out. This means the best method of not getting thrown off your rhythm is to not use your arms and just pull straight up over the bars while standing. This works your core a lot more and isn’t replicating the outdoor pedaling motion. This is a problem that likely needs a much more advanced (and expensive) electronically activated, computer controlled hydraulic system to get to full outdoor realism. For shorter efforts you can try to time the motion but your arms are more or less doing nothing except moving in sync with the motion induced by your pedaling. Once you stand for too long the “perching” will make you more tired because your arms aren’t able to weight and pull the bars efficiently. Overall, I still think it’s a decent investment if you’re serious about riding inside but you might be a bit disappointed with the realism of sprinting and climbing out of the saddle. Also, I’m not sure you gain that much in terms of bar and saddle comfort. I felt like there was either no benefit or minimal benefit compared to simply adjusting my fit and saddle (which I did).

Pricey, but worth every penny

I was having trouble going more than 2 hours on the indoor training and did a lot of research on rocker plates. The fore-aft movement on this one was constantly mentioned as a gamechanger, so when the MP1 went on sale, I decided to pick one up. This thing makes a HUGE difference in comfort! It was still a lot of money, but the combo of H3 and MP1 is rock solid and has me inspired to get on the bike at 5:30 each morning. This for me falls into the category of buy once, cry once as I haven’t thought about the price once since my first ride with this underneath me. Highly recommend!

Love this thing!

The Saris MP1 came nicely assembled in it's box. Super easy to set up. Well built. Works great. Definitely overpriced, but a lot easier than making one myself for half the price. REI hooked me up big time with a 20% member discount which helped!!!
