Quality Control Needs Improvement
We have a Mazda 5 with no roof rack. We purchased this for a family road trip to hold our duffle bags so our dog could sit in the back seat. The first bag we got had a broken zipper. The second was missing a clip to hook the bag onto the trunk. Once these issues were fixed (thanks REI customer service!) we were very happy with the bag. It did take two adults about two hours to figure out all the straps and get it sized the first time. For subsequent uses it was much quicker to attach to the car since all the straps were the right length. We were still able to see out the back window and couldn't even tell it was on while driving which was really nice. Hopefully now that we have a complete product it will last a while, we've only used it 4 times so far.
what a let down
I was so excited about the flexibility of this pack, since we don't have a roof rack or much storage in our garage for a hard roof carrier. This was such a disappointment. First, it does NOT work on an Acura MDX without roof rack - there is no ability to catch the car hooks in the space between the hatch and the car. Also, there's no structure to the bag - had we been able to attach it, I think it would've been a big fat lump hanging off the back of the car.
