Good bottle, weak loop attachment
The bottle has a loop that goes around the wide-mouthed neck and is attached to the cap by a flap. This flap came off while on a hike and now the loop sticks out uselessly in the air.
Best water bottle
I have 4 of these babies and I bring one of them with me everywhere I go. I bought one of them over 5 years ago and it has traveled with me across the world and is still going strong. These water bottles are durable and are a great size. I get compliments on them and am asked where I got them often. They are easy to clean and easy to drink out of. I love all the colors and designs REI has to offer. In the past, every water bottle I bought had a potent chemical smell that I could not wash out- I've bought water bottles from everywhere and found these are the only ones without the smell. Highly recommend to everyone!
Had to buy a new one...after 21 years of use
I had to replace my Nalgene after the plastic cracked. No complaints here, I bought the cracked bottle in high school new probably around 1999 for a canoeing trip. The bottle kept me hydrated through college, summiting 14’rs in Colorado and biking to classes. It carried me through a good chunk of a military career being thrown in gym bags, back packs and tents all over the world. It died after the plastic lid broke, it dropped from my messenger bag and bounced off a curb while I was biking home from the Pentagon. I’ll miss my faithful old nalgene but look forward to the adventures it’s replacement and I will have.
One week old. Dropped one time and broke
Used for one week. Dropped it one time in the driveway and the bottom shattered...
Best bottle!
I grew up using Nalgenes in the 80s and 90s for backpacking and had no idea they'd improved so much. No plastic taste, easy to drink from and clean, leak-proof, lightweight, BPA-free. I ended up ordering another and find these so much easier to use than my older higher-tech bottles. And kudos to REI for their Pride collection!
After all these years still the best.
My age means I have been in exercise and hence hydration for too long. Whilst I loved the advent of the Camelbak I find that every time the wheel is re-invented there is always a let down or something that ultimately breaks. All okay if you're jogging around the block but over the years I find keep it simple and there's less to break. Nalgene have been going strong since the 90's and outdoor enthusiasts know why. Still hard to break, keeps fluids hot and cold well and little to no odour/smell (the number of bladders gone by the wayside!). It might be a basic bottle but still the best and worth 5*
Nalgene Bottles are Worth the Extra Cost!!
A brand name Nalgene water bottle is definitely worth the extra cost. When I snow camp, I am able to put boiling water directly from the camp stove into a Nalgene and throw it in my sleeping bag to keep me warm. Any off-brand bottle or soft bottle would melt and leak. They also hold up much better when getting dragged over rocks and ice. With that said, I really appreciate the artwork REI has added to spruce up the bottle from the standard blue color. My girlfriend really appreciated the animals hidden in the artwork on this particular bottle.
Phenomenal at HOLDING WATER wow!!!!!
Holds water pretty well. I mean, I've seen my fair share of water bottles if you catch my drift but this one, pretty darn good. Water seems to form well to the contours of the bottle. Really no gaps like those cheap foreign made "water" bottles, if you can even call them that. This one though, super solid. Holds water really well. I would even go as far to say that you could put other liquids in it but I would consult the user manual first. Mouth is very large so I assume the design is intended for the lead singer of the hit band "AeroSmith".
use during the winter and stuff a jacket in it
use during the winter. step 1) get ready for bed step 2) boil water and put it in Nalgene step 3) place Nalgene at feet of sleeping bag step 4) sleep way warmer. don't use with the opaque-white bottles, or any of the nalgenes you can squeeze the shape of the bottle with your hand. only use with the BPA-Free bottles which you can't squeeze the shape of the bottle. You want the hard bottle for warm bottle night sleeping and not the soft bottle.
REI Shipping disappointment
I'm pretty disappointed in the way REI shipped my items. Particularly the Nalgene bottles I ordered. I had bought some smaller items and they were all put loosely into a large box. Two of the bottles were partially wrapped in one sheet of tissue paper but the other wasn't. They were beat up looking with scuffs and such. I understand that water bottles are used frequently and will get some wear and tear quickly. However, I bought a new water bottle and the wear and tear should be done by me at whatever pace that happens not immediately upon opening the box.
