I like the jacket. It is very comfy and very thin but surprisingly warm. It is super lightweight. The only thing that I didn’t like is that the pebble color is different in person than on the pictures. It looks more grayish to me. I wanted it to be more of a neutral brown sort of color. I got the XS. I am 5’0 and 120lb. I have some room to wear a long sleeve and a thin sweater underneath it.
Within one week, the material broke down wearing a hydration pack while snowshoeing and cross country skiing 4 times total. I have worn the hydration pack many times with other down jackets with no issues but I have never purchased this particular brand before. Also, I already found a hole where down is coming out. In the store, I turned in a jacket I found on the rack, same brand and model, where the seams were split already.
This jacket fits curvy women really well. Anyone with large breasts knows what it's like to have them squished in a jacket or not even be able to zip it past your boobs. I was very happy to not have this problem with this jacket. The sleeves are a tad long, but not to the point that they are covering my hands. I have noticed a few feathers come out of the jacket, but given how lightweight and warm it is, I think that that is a small price to pay.
Gentlemen in store said “cal Berkeley colors in a jacket ,seeing I had a Berkeley sweatshirt on” I bought the jacket after he made the comment great for football games
Disappointed. Cotopaxi changed the design dramatically from last years model. This years model the arms are still good, but the cut is shorter and the mid section is ridiculously boxy. Not just from an aesthetic perspective (not flattering at all), but functionally, it’s too roomy in the torso so there’s a lot of excess space for cold air to come up. I bought the L at first but returned it for a M. If I went any smaller it would not longer fit my arms and chest. Last years model had a really nice tapering effect that flattered your figure and contoured to your body. Extremely disappointed. This is a very expensive coat for how bad this is. And I love the brand. For reference I am 150 lbs 5’6. Chest waist hips: 38x29x39
Thanks for your constructive feedback! Truly goes a long way in continuing to help us out! Thank you for these details :) Best,
I bought my Cotopaxi Fuego just before my three week hike on the John Muir Trail. Cotopaxi went above and beyond to make sure my coat arrived before I departed. And, this is the BEST down coat I've ever owned. It kept me warm on those chilly nights in the 20s on the trail, packed down into a small, light stuff sack, and was dreamily comfortable, not to mention super cute! I loved the bright green. The medium fit me well, I'm an athletic build, but I can see how this model might be a little tight on the hips of those with with more of an hourglass shape. I know the newer models might be different. And, last, supporting a company that is doing some incredible stuff in the community makes me happy! Cotopaxi customer for life here!
The colors are beautiful and what attracted me to this "jacket." But I am a petite, plus sized person. I looked at the size chart, selected XXL, and decided to see if this jacket was cut proportionally for me. It was not. The XXL fit great in my shoulders and chest and about midway down my torso. However, I could not even close the jacket from midway torso down. I had to hike the jacket up to zip... And nah, not doing that. And it does this because whoever designed this did not consider that just because you get fatter around doesn't mean your torso is also getting longer... Like a giant? So I sized up to 2x this time. It is slightly oversized in the shoulders, chest, and midway through torso. And from midway torso down it goes past your waist and hips. My entire crotch is covered by the jacket, because it is cut too long for most human torsos. So no... It's a coat. You can see it is not proportional, because the models arms are lonber than the bottom of the jacket's torso. For me and my body, this jacket is a good 6 inches too long in the body: my arms are much shorter than the body of the jacket. So is this a "jacket" designed for plus sizes? No.
I am a function over form gal, and this jacket more than delivers! It is so warm that I usually don’t need a long layer under it. Even though I already had a down layer, I got this one for the hood, and it is so worth it! Keeps me extra warm to have my head covered. The fit is excellent and large enough to have multiple layers under if need be but not so big that it’s baggy. Flattering fit and love the telltale Cotopaxi stripes! I especially love the colors, making it not only a necessary gear piece but a fun wear.
I've been searching for a good down jacket for a long time now. Problem is I'm only 5'0". Most jackets are way too long in the arms and just fit weird. I've also tried youth jackets, but they don't zip over my chest. This one was perfect. It fit my chest and my hips, and the length of the arms and overall length was perfect! If I were average height, I imagine it might be a bit short, but it was perfect for me!
Dear Cotopaxi, fat people like to go outside, too. The fact this jacket runs small and only goes to an XL is beyond frustrating. I'm typically an XL for bottoms but M/L on top so I ordered the XL. This jacket fit my chest and arms well, but it wouldn't even meet to zip at my hips and there's no stretch whatsoever. The two stars are for the fun color options and the jacket material was super soft. If you're typically an XL and on the "hippier" side, save yourself the time and frustration and buy a different jacket. The REI 650 down jacket goes up to a 3X, has great reviews, and is cheaper.
