Ok Board-Bad Customer Service
We purchased an Oahu Board recently. It was supposed to come with two bite fins and one main fin. The bite fins were not included and 4 weeks later (as summer passes us by)we’re still waiting for the bite fins. This is a great looking board and we get lots of compliments-but the cut out mat that makes it look great does hurt your feet if you are out on the water for very long. This board also sits very low and is very fragile. If you’re boarding in areas with rocks—look out. We’ve already had to repair it once ($150). All in all we prefer the inflatable boards. This is cool looking but not worth the trouble with customer service and the fragility of the board.
Beautiful Board
What a stunner. I love my New Woody. It's definately a head turner. It sits low, but it like the way it sits. It is not for anyplace it can get roughed up, my first day out awarded huge scratches down the bottom from the beach. My paddle had sand on it and scratched the top face. It will buff out, but this is a "look at me board." It maneuvers beautifully. My complaints are that at 1,200.00, it didn't come with ANYTHING!! NO PADDLE, NO BUNGEE, NO LEASH, NOT EVEN SCREWS TO PUT THEM ON WITH. To make it worse, Rei didnt carry the parts, so they had to be ordered online. All in all, if you live on the water it will be used on it is a perfect show boat. It is not for sport or rough play. I would buy it again, but I like show boating. If its sport, get something more durable.
Sweet ride
This isn’t the board I intended to purchase... I actually bought the Malibu touring board and when I arrived to pick it up at the store, it had been damaged in transit. After a lot of red tape and less than exemplary customer service at REI in Sacramento, still not wanting to leave empty handed, I picked this up as an alternative. It wasn’t the length or shape I was after, it was $300 more than I wanted to spend in addition to having to buy not only a paddle, but also Seamount D rings and bungee separately, I was not set up to have a good time. And yet, I like this board a lot. Like, a lot a lot. It’s short, but incredible stable and very maneuverable. I paddle Tahoe 2-3 days a week and while I love glassy conditions, I certainly don’t wait for them. This board handles choppy conditions, boat wakes, and wind swells rather easily, and surprisingly she is rather fast, even though she thicc. She’s quite attractive as well and always turns heads. I’ve put multiple first-day-out beginners on this board and watched them all do really well. Although REI’s listing states that this board comes with three fins, it does not. It comes with a center fin only. If you want the side bite fins, you’ll have to buy them separately for $50. That’s the only thing that bugs me about this board is that it comes completely stripped down and you’ll spend several more bills to get it going
Wanted to Love it
We purchased two Pau Hana boards one month ago. This board comes with a "5-fin set-up" but neither board came with more than 1 fin. REI has been doing great job trying to get the company to ship the 4 other fins for both boards--but one month later they are "out of stock." Keep in mind that this board "comes with" 5 fins--they were not an add-on. On the positive side this is a great looking board. It does sit lower in the water than an inflatable (we also have Isle boards which are terrific) which is fine for some of us. If you are a heavier guy--a portion of your board will be almost under water. This is also somewhat of a fragile board (got a hole in it on its maiden voyage when it was set on a rock). The cut-out mat design on the board is interesting, but it will begin to hurt your feet if you are out for a long time. All in all--I prefer the Isle inflatable boards to this one--they are also about $400 cheaper.
Great all around board
I purchased this board from the Brentwood, TN, location. Both Natalie and Colin provided excellent customer service. Pau Hana is responsive to customer inquiries and the company also posted a large number of instructional videos on YouTube. I paddle the board primarily on the Tennessee River. It's fast and easy to maneuver. I use the side bites, but they're mostly needed in surf.
sits way too low in water
I loved the style and look of this board, esp because I moved from Hawaii and it reminded me of there, but it somewhat sank in the water. I had one with a turquiose background and it was beautiful and almost kept it just for the looks, but its too much money to just be decorative. I hope they fix this issue and i would totally buy it again.
