Three styles of paddling in one boat!

I can’t say enough about this boat. To be able to sit and kayak comfortably, stand up to paddle board, and even move forward to a sitting canoe posture and paddle from the knee position makes this boat a river champ. You don’t even have to stop to adjust. The body of the kayak is larger and heavier than i expected from the photos, but it isn’t a draw back unless this is going on a small car. I also really liked that the removable fin is interchangeable with conventional paddleboard fins. I’ve had this on rivers And lakes and I could not be happier with it.

Convenient Hybrid

We've only used this kayak twice, and so far we like it. We like having the option to stand up or sit down while out on the water ... instead of having to buy both an sup AND a kayak, which saves room on our deck. It's very stable and allows for a dog, or even another person in our case, to sit on the back and enjoy the ride too. We've only used it on a relatively calm lake, and for this purpose so far we're glad we bought it, though we wish it was a little bit lighter.

Versatile Hybrid

I specifically bought this so I can put my two dogs on it. It is very stable and both of my dogs were comfortable. I put the 30lb dog on the back and he stayed put. The smaller terrier would run around and stand up front (as terriers do). Perfect and more capable than any other option out there for that. The rear platform seating is also perfect for adding a kid or person on the back. I haven’t tried an adult yet, but it was just fine with a kid. I do like that you can SUP as well or just kayak on the raised seat with back support. This also makes it a bit better for fishing and there is an ice chest under the seat. I can def see this being a good way to do a kayak-in or boat-in campsite. Plenty of space to stably store all your gear. I might give that a try sometime since I have that option now. Obviously with all these features in one vessel, it isn’t necessarily the best at any one, but for a one-quiver option, this thing is really cool. At 55lbs, I can carry it a decent distance on my own (without using the trolley). Hoisting it onto my roof rack isn’t so bad either, but it can be a bit awkward maneuvering into storage, depending on your space. Price was competitive and felt like a bargain for what you get. My only few negatives: - Perhaps some less tacky color options. A few solid colors would be nice. That said, it is visible and that makes it safe. Fine enough for me. - The rear plug isn’t super secure and leaked water into the interior. Not sure why a more solid solution isn’t standard. This shouldn’t be so easily done. I only had it happen with my dogs in a rougher lake setting once. I’ll look into fixing that somehow. I’ve seen some YouTube videos with fixes. - Dog nails mar up the grip pads pretty easily. Wish it was a more durable material. I assume this could be replaced if necessary.

Cool, but could better

I picked this up from the store on 6/24/24. I was super excited to try it out. I truthfully bought it for my dogs. They love kayaking but lifting them in and out of a traditional kayak can be a pain. They also enjoy cruising around and this is definitely way more stable than my 12’ old town loon. Overall, happy with it and it meets the needs of what I wanted it for. However, looking back I wish I would have went with a simple ocean kayak due to the flatness of the hull. I went in knowing this was a sup / kayak hybrid so not a big deal but it is hard to stay straight even with the fin. The biggest downside is the quality. Specifically the gripping they use. Our kayaks literally hang on the wall of our living room, so they’re never exposed to the outside elements besides when they’re being used. After the very first use, once I got the kayak back inside, I noticed the gripping started to bubble. I’m assuming I’ll have to change this out pretty quickly. Overall, it’s a cool unique piece. Great for dogs but could be designed a little better with better quality materials.

Stable SUP

I bought this to use as a paddleboard on Bellingham Bay. My previous inflatable had a catastrophic failure when I left it on the dock in the sun. The Perception Hi-Life is durable enough to be tied next to my boat in the harbor, although I do have to pull it up on the dock frequently to scrub growth from the bottom. I like this design because it’s super stable as a SUP. I feel safe even in the winter to take it out on a nice day. If there is a big boat wake coming, I can sit down and be safe from falling. For me, this hybrid can be paddled as a SUP in calm water and small chop. If the winds come up more than that, I can switch to kayak mode to make it safely back to the harbor. It is awkward to paddle as a kayak with a SUP paddle but it is doable when necessary. As a kayak, it’s not my favorite because there is no foot support. I have taken it out in white-caps and it seemed stable enough but because of it’s flat design it pounds the waves. In summary, I like the hybrid design mostly as a SUP, but it’s also fun for a short kayak paddle in calm water.
