Do not discontinue these!

I hope OR doesn't discontinue these pants. They are by far the best hardshell pants I've come across. I can't rave enough about them. I own the black version and these things are so well thought out. They have great ventilation, a comfy interior lining that also helps wick away sweat. I've snowshoed and cramponed in thigh high snow without issue. And, combined with OR gaiters, Even without the gaiters, the fabric on the lower pants are tough, and I've been happily surprised by how there's not even a single sign of damage from constant rubbing up aginst ice, rock and my crampons themselves. The built in belt is durable and simple. Pockets are located where you need them.

Awesome winter alpine pants

My new favorite pants for snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, mountaineering. With the AscentShell upper, Polartec Alpha and big vent zips, they are more breathable than a soft shell, but with a big boost in warmth and water resistance. Super lightweight for what they do. Burly stretchy lower leg fabric fits over ski boots and guards against sharp edges. Zips down small enough for a close fit on mountaineering boots too. Ankle draw cord / instep lace feature works beautifully. No snow gets in, even post holing thru deep snow. Zippers are easy to operate with gloves on. Cut of the upper leg is generous enough to fit those of us with developed quads. Fabric stretch and cut are great for movement. No resistance when lifting the knees while climbing.

So far very happy with this product!!!

Bought this pants for an expedition to climb in Peru. So far I've used them only In the canadian Rockies and they are very light and comfortable. Ice climbing with them was ok but I'm wondering how waterproof they are. The side zippers are great!! They allow heat to escape very easily so don't have to hesitate whether to wear long jones underneath or not. I'm wondering how durable they they are as the fabric seems fragile but I guess they are for mountaineering more than ice climbing. So far I love them

Interesting pant for unique circumstances.

The pant is very warm and very durable so far. Can be used for skiing in conditions that lead to "Type 2 fun". These pants will keep you safe when it's colder, wetter, and more miserable than usual! My main problem with these pants is that the built-in belt is hard (impossible thus far) to disconnect. My waist is 36-38 but my legs are enormous and the belt just barely gets over them. Once I manage to shimmy my body into place, everything seems to fit relatively nicely.

Good pants, with one catch

Good fit, keeps me warm over a medium weight baselayer in single digit temps with wind when hiking with a pack. When I get warm, the zips easily vent. The waist buckle doesn't undo completely so fitting them on over my hips is a tight squeeze, but then they fit nicely after that. Also, the crampon shield patches tore on my second use out, so now snow collects in them. Wish those were a bit more durable.

Warm and dry

Bought these for a snowshoe trip to Tilley Jane cabin on Mt Hood. I was impressed by the quality and fit. Flexible enough for a big guy like me (6"4", 240, ordered XL). Plenty warm without having to wear extra insulation. Another great but from OR.

First pair of bc pants in 15 years.

I have used these pants about 5 times and love them overall. Only downside and might be a deal breaker is keeping the belt tight. I am still working on a solution and with no belt loops not sure what to do.

I would buy this again. Hoping they come in black

I was conserned because I have big quads but they fit well. The big zips on the sides for ventilation are fantastic and the cords to hold the pant leg down work as well as proper gators.
