Nice Product, Odd Fit
The Cenote color looked great in person — exactly as described. Really nice shade of blue and easy to pair with different jackets. The fit was the issue for me. Tight around the mid section but the legs flare out quite a bit toward the bottom, almost bell-bottom style. It made the overall fit feel a bit odd. Material felt solid and lightweight for a shell bib. These use OR’s AscentShell 3-layer waterproof breathable fabric, which is designed to be stretchy and breathable for touring while my use is resort skiing only. Bottom line: great color and good build, but the cut just didn’t work for me.
Crazy breathable and comfortable and still haven’t wetted down
6’2” 215lb in XL Got these babies for winter ‘25 tours around the PNW and ended up just wearing them for my all time resort kit too. Pros: Most comfortable bibs I’ve ever worn they feel more like climbing pants or Prana yoga pants and not at all plastic or swooshy. Light and breathable but still haven’t gotten wet baselayers despite the deep powder we’ve been blessed with so far this season. Con: my haunch size necessitates an XL in most bibs but the chest size bunches in the back even with the elastic panel. Khaki was the only available color at the time but doesn’t seem like the highest contrast color in the event of an emergency. At least there are black gaiter panels on the cuff.
Nice Product, Odd Fit
Fit felt odd — tight through the mid section with legs that flare out toward the bottom. Build quality seemed solid, but the cut just didn’t work for me.
Comfortable and breathable
I’ve used this for a season and so far I’m pleased with it. It is very comfortable due to the stretchy material, warm, and breathes well. Fit overall is great, especially since there are options for shorter or longer inseam. The only aspect I didn’t like was that it’s a bit too baggy at the top of the backside.
OR quality has gone downhill
I have owned OR ski pants for the past 10+ years. Loved them. Unfortunately the Skytour AscentShell Bibs I recently purchased are the worst pair of ski pants/bibs I have ever owned. Fit: the top of the bib is very tight in the front and the suspenders create a weird gap that makes them very loose in the back. strange fit. The bottom half/legs of the bibs are very loose. I bought a size large (my pant size for OR) it almost seems like above the waist is a small/medium and the bottom is a large/xtra large. Thigh zipper pockets are no longer longer water resistant. Fabric seems thin/low quality compared to a few years back. No belt loops (compared to other bibs), The pant cuffs are HUGE. There is a snap on the cuff to make them smaller, but it is difficult to "snap", they come undone easily, and make the HUGE cuffs look like an 1980's peg and roll when secured. (Very) Unfortunate that I thought these pants would be similar to the skytour pants I have purchased in the past.
Great Quality - Fits Well
Great quality product. I'm 6'2" 205lbs, wear 34-36 / 34 pants. I got a size L. This fits well. It is a little snug pulling on - but that's because the chest is more narrow than the hips, which fit perfectly - not too snug, not too baggy. I could easily have an under layer on without issue.
Bell Bottoms
I’m sure these are great quality but they flare out so much around the ankle. Obviously you need to get them over a boot but these are straight 1970’s bell bottoms.
Great fit
I was a little worried that a large would be too tall/long for me (5’10”), but they fit rather nicely in shoes and perfectly in ski boots.
Great Bibs
The Skytours are awesome. I'm a 32wx34l pant and these fit perfect. I love the pockets and the zippered areas. 10/10
Best bibs I've owned - If it weren't for terrible thigh zippers
The Skytour AscentShell bib was by far the most comfortable bib that I've ever owned. I frequently ski in the Canadian Rockies, often in adverse conditions, and these bibs moved with me all day, from the first tracks to apres-ski. Outdoor Research nailed it with this 3L fabric...lightweight, waterproof and best of all, stretchy. The stretch of the fabric is what sold me on these bibs! To my displeasure, the love ended there. On multiple occasions, the thigh pocket zippers on both legs would get hung up in the open position, rendering these pockets useless. It may not be a deal-breaker to some, but I frequently stash items in these pockets to avoid having to unzip my jacket to access the upper bib pocket. This was a huge disappointment for me...I had finally found the most comfortable bib ever, yet one tiny detail rendered them useless. The only way to temporarily resolve the issue was to remove the bib entirely and work the fabric and zipper back and forth in multiple directions to free it. Nothing was hung in the zipper...just that it would hang on itself. Fortunately, the retailer was willing to allow me to return them for a full refund. I'm a huge OR fan, but they missed the perfect bib with one tiny design oversight.
