A Tent That Checks All Of The Boxes

TLDR: Buy it, you won't regret it. After exhaustive research into the world of ultra light backpacking tents we settled on the Big Agnes Tiger Wall 3 Platinum. My wife and I spend over 30 nights under the stars each summer and we were looking to replace our Half Dome 2+ with something a little more lightweight and packable. If you are looking for a tent that is amazingly light weight while remaining durable and waterproof this is the tent for you. We've taken this tent to the Utah desert, Wyoming's Wind River Range, and to a very soggy Three Sister's Wilderness in Oregon just to name a few. The three person is the perfect size for me, my wife, and our dog. Even if it was just my wife and I, I think I would still go for the three person. I appreciate the extra space. At 6'2 I take up a lot of space but we don't feel cramped and I can sit up without hitting my head. This is one of the more spacious tents for its weight. There are vestibules on both sides and they are big enough to shield your gear and boots in a nasty rain storm. We didn't haven't had any issues with condensation building up on the inside of the fly, even in humid climates. Even after 5 days straight of Pacific Northwest rain, our tent remained dry. The is super light. Like, really really light. It's also very easy to setup which we appreciate after a long day on the trail. It's held just fine in strong winds. Comes with nice stakes. The interior pockets a good size and in a good location. We also really like the media pocket. It's way better than having our junk roll around the tent all night. One thing we ended up loving about this tent is that it has two doors. Many of the super light weight tents we looked at only had one and we don't like climbing over each other to use the restroom in the middle of the night. The floor feels thin but its held up perfectly against our dogs claws. The fly is also super thin, but does what it's suppose to. It took us some time to get use to how thin thy fly is, if you're not careful you can catch the fly in its zipper. Which is easily avoidable but just something to be aware of.

4 months across the Australian Outback!

I slept in this tent every night for 109 consecutive nights while on my running journey across the Australian Outback in late 2019. Australia is harsh, brittle, and full of plants/thorny things that want to poke you. The Tiger Wall 3 Tent by Big Agnes held up to what we asked of it, and honestly, we asked A LOT of this tent. My husband was with me on a bicycle pedaling all our supplies on a bike trailer and in panniers plus the tent strapped to his front handlebars. It fit myself and my husband perfectly, not crammed in like sardines, and this was especially evident on hot 80-degree F nights; neither of us felt too hot from being too close together. The greatest thing about this tent, and why we decided on it, was that it is lightweight and promised durability. Doors on both sides made getting up in the middle of the night super easy - no need to step over the other person. There truly is plenty of room in this tent for two people, and we even brought our bikepacking bags inside the tent for the night as well. It held up in 45-55 mph winds overnight, which is a testament to its sturdy pole structure. The only thing I think can improve with this tent, and I need to be honest here, are the zippers. They are a bit dainty. All in all, we swear by this tent and have used it on a few more bikepacking trips since 2019. YAY!

get the footprint

Took a friend on their first backpacking trip and we brought this tent. He was surprised by how easy it was to set up and how cozy the interior was. I upgraded from the passage 2 to thins thinking I would still use the passage by myself but this tent is so much nicer both weight wise and size wise. I could easily use this tent by myself if needed. The floor is thin and you need to have a ground sheet. The guylines are mediocre but are usable. I wish they were all adjustable as the existing adjustable lines are top notch.
