A Tent That Checks All Of The Boxes

TLDR: Buy it, you won't regret it. After exhaustive research into the world of ultra light backpacking tents we settled on the Big Agnes Tiger Wall 3 Platinum. My wife and I spend over 30 nights under the stars each summer and we were looking to replace our Half Dome 2+ with something a little more lightweight and packable. If you are looking for a tent that is amazingly light weight while remaining durable and waterproof this is the tent for you. We've taken this tent to the Utah desert, Wyoming's Wind River Range, and to a very soggy Three Sister's Wilderness in Oregon just to name a few. The three person is the perfect size for me, my wife, and our dog. Even if it was just my wife and I, I think I would still go for the three person. I appreciate the extra space. At 6'2 I take up a lot of space but we don't feel cramped and I can sit up without hitting my head. This is one of the more spacious tents for its weight. There are vestibules on both sides and they are big enough to shield your gear and boots in a nasty rain storm. We didn't haven't had any issues with condensation building up on the inside of the fly, even in humid climates. Even after 5 days straight of Pacific Northwest rain, our tent remained dry. The is super light. Like, really really light. It's also very easy to setup which we appreciate after a long day on the trail. It's held just fine in strong winds. Comes with nice stakes. The interior pockets a good size and in a good location. We also really like the media pocket. It's way better than having our junk roll around the tent all night. One thing we ended up loving about this tent is that it has two doors. Many of the super light weight tents we looked at only had one and we don't like climbing over each other to use the restroom in the middle of the night. The floor feels thin but its held up perfectly against our dogs claws. The fly is also super thin, but does what it's suppose to. It took us some time to get use to how thin thy fly is, if you're not careful you can catch the fly in its zipper. Which is easily avoidable but just something to be aware of.

4 months across the Australian Outback!

I slept in this tent every night for 109 consecutive nights while on my running journey across the Australian Outback in late 2019. Australia is harsh, brittle, and full of plants/thorny things that want to poke you. The Tiger Wall 3 Tent by Big Agnes held up to what we asked of it, and honestly, we asked A LOT of this tent. My husband was with me on a bicycle pedaling all our supplies on a bike trailer and in panniers plus the tent strapped to his front handlebars. It fit myself and my husband perfectly, not crammed in like sardines, and this was especially evident on hot 80-degree F nights; neither of us felt too hot from being too close together. The greatest thing about this tent, and why we decided on it, was that it is lightweight and promised durability. Doors on both sides made getting up in the middle of the night super easy - no need to step over the other person. There truly is plenty of room in this tent for two people, and we even brought our bikepacking bags inside the tent for the night as well. It held up in 45-55 mph winds overnight, which is a testament to its sturdy pole structure. The only thing I think can improve with this tent, and I need to be honest here, are the zippers. They are a bit dainty. All in all, we swear by this tent and have used it on a few more bikepacking trips since 2019. YAY!

get the footprint

Took a friend on their first backpacking trip and we brought this tent. He was surprised by how easy it was to set up and how cozy the interior was. I upgraded from the passage 2 to thins thinking I would still use the passage by myself but this tent is so much nicer both weight wise and size wise. I could easily use this tent by myself if needed. The floor is thin and you need to have a ground sheet. The guylines are mediocre but are usable. I wish they were all adjustable as the existing adjustable lines are top notch.

Freakishly Light

I'm a backpacker and backpack hunter, so every gram I can cut from my load is critical. Most ultralight tents are so small that I can't fit without my head or feet brushing against the tent walls. That is not the case with the Tiger Wall 3. This tent allows me to lay down straight and have plenty of room for my wife and gear. When I'm traveling alone, it's downright spacious. Big Agnes didn't do anything special for this tent except make it lighter. I don't feel like the material is any less durable, but it's probably not a tent I'll loan out to friends who want to camp with small kids or pets. Overall, I'm loving it!

Great in the PNW

This is a two ;person tent for fast packers. It is light, and weather resistant with a taut pitch. Sleeps 2 plus gear very well and if you are careful where you set it down, it will last forever it seems. I have used it when camping iwth someone else, and the double doors are great as compared to my old days with the Fly Creek. For sure lighter than my Copper Spur 3 and of course a bit more fragile due to the denier used. I was hooked enough to sell my Copper Spur. I have ran a loop through ceiling and wall loops to make a clothing line.

Great Ultralight 2p+ Tent!

I used this tent once so far for an overnight near Mount Baker, and it was quick and simple to set up with two people. It was nicely roomy for the two of us but I think it would be tight for three. It was ideal for a setup with ice climbing equipment and a 50L bag for an overnight, keeping total weight to about 30lbs (sans boots) which was remarkable. I also utilized a compression sack to minimize the total size of the tent and it wound up compressing to a smaller volume than my quilt, including the footprint! Very nice! I can't speak to longevity yet but it seems that with some care it should last many seasons of moderate use. The only downside is the price, but that's to be expected for a tent with this many features at this weight and packability.

Roomy lightweight tent

I bought this tent, had someone borrow it and lose the fly, then I bought it again! It's roomy with the two vestibules, mostly self standing, really lightweight and easy to set up. It's roomy enough to fit my kids/dog but light enough that I'll take it for the luxurious space when hiking solo. The fabric feels like a plastic bag, so not sure how long it will last--I did have a tear by the zipper on my first tent almost right away. Definitely recommend the footprint.

Insanely Light

I'm amazed every time I set this thing up. It's light, it's super easy to set up alone, it's spacious and comfortable, and it packs up easily. I recently camped with my boyfriend and my dog and was nervous about my dog damaging the delicate-feeling fabric, but it held up perfectly even against an excited pup. I'm super impressed with the thoughtfulness of the design, but I do wish that it had included the ground tarp because it really is mandatory with this tent.

Light, sturdy tent

I just wrapped up the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon National Park with the Tiger Wall 3 Platinum, and overall it performed really well. We didn't see any rain on this trip, but we did get a fair amount of wind. The tent held its form impressively during gusts and never felt flimsy or unstable. For two people, I'd say the 3-person version is worth the extra weight over the 2-person. The extra space makes camp life much more comfortable-plenty of room for gear inside without feeling cramped, and it still packs down surprisingly light for a tent of its size. My only critique is the rainfly: the zipper tends to snag more often than it did on my previous tent, which gets frustrating, especially in the dark or when tired after a long day. Not a deal-breaker, but something worth noting for potential buyers. Overall, it's a fantastic ultralight option if you want comfort, space, and solid performance in the wind.
