Perfect for the price point and weight.
I really love this simplistic rear fender. It's light weight and incredibly easy to put together and break down. Snapping it on and off the bike is also easy. The product itself is pretty light, and while I don't think it will stand up to a bad wreck, I've found the product's weight an advantage for city riding. If you want a set of fenders that can be left on the bike and that will hold up for years, I would look elsewhere. This is the fender for someone who wants to look at the weather the night before and snap a fender on in sixty seconds for their commute or hitting the trail.
Clamp bracket broke
Never got a chance to use it. Bracket is poorly designed and has at least one very weak point that failed on install.
There might be a better option for dropper posts
Easy install but i wish there’re was more articulation in the fender. I have a dropper post so it’s installed low and in order for it to not rub on the tire it has to be angled upward
Great concept, very flawed execution
Love the concept, and the fender itself seems like a great design. Unfortunately the mount is next to useless: going over the slightest bump is enough to send the fender flopping down onto the top of the wheel. On PDW's website you can see that some photos have a strap connecting the fender to the underside of the seat, which would solve this problem––I have no idea why a strap like that isn't included, or why the screw that holds the mount together has a (fairly low) limit on how hard it can be tightened down.
Fantastic form, but concerned about function
I have this installed on my Cannondale Moterra Neo2 e-Mtn bike with 29x2.63 tires, along with the Origami front fender. They look really great, however I'm not sure they're working the way they're supposed to. Here in Portland OR I frequently ride the Leif Erikson trail, a fire access road up on the hillside. At this time of year, it's pretty sloppy wet and muddy, and as I'm riding up and back down at approx 10-20mph, the tires are splashing through a lot of muck on the road. I find that my back is completely covered in mud from the back tire's spray, as well as lots of mud and water on the front of my pants and legs (I think turning the wheel, tho, exposes the rear side of the front wheel, allowing the mud sling to fall onto my legs) Not sure if I've got it mounted too high of an angle, but I try to keep it from hitting the rear tire when my rear suspension compresses. The mount, btw, is excellent - strong strap and intelligent lever design keeps the rear fender in alignment at all times. I'll keep using it in the hopes I find the sweet spot for its mount and use, but I just need to set my expectations about how effective it will be. Bring a change of clothes!
Good potential, poor execution
I've had the PDW origami front fender for over a year and use it on rainy commutes through SF. I recently bought and installed this (install instructions are not great and it took some figuring out on the last step to secure the strap around my seat post) to use on a rainy commute downtown and at some point, unbeknowst to me, the entire thing popped off - probably going over bumpy roads. I overall appreciated the design but it wasn't executed as well as it could be.
Does not work
I bought this rear fender for a XC dual suspension mtb and found that it wouldn't stay in place...at all. Within a minute of each time I tried to use it the fender would be laying on my back tire. The weak point seems to be the plastic adjustable nut. It's a good idea in theory, but the plastic teeth just don't seem to bind well enough no matter how hard I tighten the hardware down. I'm going to have to just find the right angle and superglue the whole thing. Hopefully that works.
Amazing product!
So high quality, wallet friendly and totally worth it! This is probably the best review I've givin to any product just because im amazed. First its soooooooo light wieht so if your looking for somthing that is lighter than a bic lighter than this is it! Also it protected me so much! Lastly, it actually folds and is super durable. When you fold it it automatically folds back! Also I got this and the front one. For conclusion I rode through a river a max speed a not a drip on me. I also went through mud 2 feet deep. Not a drop.
Not especially robust
Biggest issue is the lack of grip regardless of how tightly the band is cinched around the seat post - the fender still likes to swivel around on rougher rides. If used on the street - probably fine.
Very good but may require additional rubber ...
It works great; however, you will eventually find that it may not grip the seat post so well. I found a simple solution mentiond elsewhere. Use a rubber strap (from a tube, previous mounting accessory, etc) on the seatpost, then tighten the fender mount around the rubber. It'll provide a solid grip that way.
