For our off-grid fishing lodge in a remote location, I have purchased the UC35 for all staff members. I have tried many flashlights over the years and this is my favorite, by far. It is light weight; clips to a belt or inside a pocket; is very bright; and is extremely durable. Because we live and work off-grid, the USB-powered rechargeable battery is a must - a single battery lasts for years in very rough conditions. The different brightness settings are helpful: the low settings are good for illuminating work areas, and the brightest settings best for night-time reconnaissance and security. Be careful around animals, because the brightest settings can damage the eyes of humans, dogs, horses, and other animals. Everywhere I travel, I bring my Fenix UC-35. A neighbor's truck headlights failed on a recent night drive, so I held it out the passenger window and it shined almost as bright as the headlights for our 20 mile journey. 1,000 lumens are brilliant. I bring it in my carry-on airline baggage and have had no problems, because the capacity of its lithium ion battery is well within legal limits - I checked. Fenix has recently improved the UC35s charging system, so it is easier to recharge and it stays charged longer. This is an important tool in our operation.
This is my first higher-end flashlight and so far it doesn’t disappoint. Light pattern is clean, and the battery life is pretty spectacular. I’ve been using it almost daily for a month on the second-lowest setting, and it’s still almost completely charged. I can’t comment on durability, though, because so far it’s had a pretty comfortable life. If you have a specific use in mind for your flashlight, you can probably find a better one. There are flashlights that are bigger, smaller, brighter, more durable, cable of standing on end, and so on. But if you’re looking for a good all-around light to toss in a backpack or glove compartment, this seems like a solid choice.
I've had the same problems as others--won't hold a charge, works when it feels like it. I've tried buying extra batteries so that it wasn't a problem that it wouldn't hold a charge. That didn't help, in part because the battery charger, which I bought from the company, appeared not to work (x2). When it worked, it was great, and drivers could see my dog and me from a mile away. Alas, I've been stuck one too many times with it dying while we're walking. I'm looking for something else.
I've had the Fenix UC35 for probably 6 months now and I love it. Great size, it's not too small but not so big that I don't want to carry it. I work a night shift and carry it in it's sheath every day at work. Love the ability to charge it with any USB cable I have handy, also the indicator light tells me when it's time to recharge it. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and will be buying another Fenix brand light for my girlfriend in the near future.
Returning my second flashlight after tail switch works when it wants to. Even tightened down the retaining ring, cleaned contact point etc. Love the flashlight when it works. It's fine for the first 2 months. Use it multiple times a day for work.
First one I ordered did not work for some reason, called rei , the easiest exchange I’ve ever done, they ordered me a new one and sent me a return label. The new flashlight works awesome, very bright and extremely handy. Thank you REI for making life easy,
This little gem is a must-have for the camper/hiker. —although pricey, it’s very powerful, long life, & easily stowed due to its small size...
Great build quality, w bad electronics. This was my second one with same problem. The click switch started acting up, not working properly, and it wouldn’t take a charge/ would work when it wanted to. It was great when it worked. Don’t waste your money on it not worth it.
After reviewing this flash on line , I decided to bike over there for it today and check it out “ it’s whats I’m looking for ! I went home and charged it up ! But remember “ there is a lil piece of plastic you have to pull out and remove inside , just twist Off the end cap and remove it .. it’s what keeps the battery fresh inside . I had to figure it out By my self b/c. I tried turning it on , it’s didn’t work .. then I twisted the end cap off That’s Located Of the rear end of the flash light , there was a protective cover piece of plastic by the coil where the battery sites in . But “ other then that “ it’s the best flashlight to ever own , it packs a nice throw beam , and different multiple settings that’s very useful ! And definitely moneys worth
Man, this light was so much better than I would have imagined. I replaced my old Streamlight after 6 years of dealing with their janky customer service, and wish I would have made the swap sooner! Price was awesome, got them on the phone first time I called, and the light itself has been nothing short of awesome. Highly recommend!
