Our favorite sleeping bag
Durable and functional. Had no trouble with zippers or movement. Good size for us 5'10" and 5'4" in a Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 person tent. At 34° the sleeping bag was warm and comfortable. However, at 24° it was clear the bag is wasn't up for the task, and it got very cold through the top layer. It's like a good pair of zip off pants. Great in cool weather, good in hot weather, but if it's really cold you'll need another layer or two. We like the sleeping bag versatility so much we're just going to bring more extra layers if sub freezing temps are forecasted. One note, for backpacking a smaller bag with compression straps would be ideal.
Good Bag
This is the first time my husband and I tried a double sleeping bad. We used this for two nights while tent camping. The bag is very light and can be stuffed into a compression sack, if desired. The zippers seemed to work well, although we could not completely unzip the bags (to create two separate bags) because the zipper was not lined up properly (see photos). The bag was plenty big enough for the two of us. My husband is 6'1" and 250 lbs. The length was good enough for him. There are no fancy features, like a pocket for a pillow or a small zippered compartment for a flashlight or phone. The first night, we decided to use the "warm weather" side since the nighttime temperature was going to be about 60-65 degrees. My husband was not cold at all. I was a little chilly most of the night. I always bring a long a small fleece blanket and had to use that for additional warmth. The second night, we decided to try the cold weather side. We got settled in and realized we were too hot, so we flipped it back around. We were surprised to find out that the "two sides" really do make a difference. My husband kept his side unzipped because he was still hot. This caused problems in the night because every time I turned over, I pulled the bag with me and took it from him. Also, I started out with my side of the bag unzipped. In the middle of the night, I started getting chilly and wanted to zip up my bag. I had difficulty doing so... the zipper was getting stuck on the fabric. I would recommend this bag if you camp throughout the year, in all seasons. It's a great multi-use bag.
WORTHIT just for the space saved!
If you are looking at this and waffling over a purchase because you're not sure that it's worthit...just do yourself a favor and do it. It performs well. It's comet, soft, and does everything that a double bag should. But the real reason to get this is it's compact size and weight. It's ASTOUNDING how small this packs up to be! My other double bag (also purchased at REI) takes up the same amount of space as my 85 gallon Yeti cooler - about HALF of the back of my Subaru outback. It is so big and hard to pack up, and I usually have to leave something or someone behind to make room for it. This bag packs to be only a tad bit bigger than my down mummy bag!
Not worth the price
We bought this for our trip to Yosemite. Temperatures were in the low to mid 50s. We figured we would be warm since there’s two sides with one side having a rating of 20 degrees. We used one side one night which we froze, we tried the other side the next night, again we froze. We couldn’t handle being cold any longer so we went into town and bought a $10 blanket and another cheap sleeping bag. Finally under four layers ( Exped bag, $10 blanket and cheap sleeping bag) we were finally warm. Paying what we paid for this sleeping bag, we were expecting to be warm but instead we ended up having to spend more money. Not worth the price
Simple and well designed
This is a simple and well thought-out sleeping bag. The two sides are different thicknesses, allowing you to adapt for different temperatures. I'm not sure what the exact temperature rating is, but the amount of synthetic insulation is suitable for summer or shoulder seasons. Whether you like this sleeping bag will largely depend on personal preference and how you sleep with your partner. We found it sufficiently roomy. It also easily separates into two individual bags (of different thicknesses). This is a no-frills sleeping bag. Experienced campers may miss some of features of higher-end sleeping bags. Although there is a strip of more rigid fabric along the zipper, we did experience a little of snagging.
we love this bag
My partner and I love this sleeping bad and use it almost exclusively. We are very different; 6’1” and 5’3”, one sleeps hot the other cold, one loves to camp the other not so much. Im allergic to down and have found that synthetic bags are a little trickier to buy. This is the lightest double bag that would meet all our needs. We pair this bag with our individual sleeping pads lashed together underneath so we can adjust to our sleeping needs. Not a single complaint. I’m constantly upgrading my gear and this has remained a staple piece of our kit for a couple years now.
Solid sleeping bag
This sleeping bag is lightweight but more than comfortable. Soft, easy to pack in the bag, and I love that it can be two singles or a double, making it very versatile. I was skeptical that the two different sides would actually be distinguishable by temperature, but it does make a difference. Since it has only been used in summer so far, I can’t speak to how it holds up in actual colder weather, but seems like I would work for most car camping trips. It is a bit bulky, but because it is so lightweight and can be squished to fit, that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Wanted to love it...
I like that this sleeping bag is a lighter weight compared to some other double sleeping bags. It's nice and comfy and sleeps good in warmer weather. The part I really don't like is that it is not warm. I'm in southern California and we really don't go camping in extreme cold. Mostly it's in the low 40s (Fahrenheit) when we camp and we are always shivering. It's takes most of the night for our body heat to warm us up. I really wanted to love this bag, but right now I just mostly like it. I am looking for something else for chilly weather.
Has its uses...just not in cold weather
This is not a 25/40 bag. This is maybe a 40 bag if you have a sleeping partner who sleeps warm. Even when wearing a midweight base layer and with my 70# dog snuggled in the bag with me, I had to throw an extra quilt or two over the top to be warm enough when the temp dipped a degree or two below 40 overnight. What it *is* good for is keeping camp dirt out of my bedding as the dog goes in and out of the tent during the day, as long as I make sure to zip the bag closed when not in use. Pros: See comment about keeping camp dirt out of bedding. Pack in its own mesh bag. Fairly light, especially compared to the car-camping sleeping bags of the past. Cons: Very slippery fabric. Not nearly as warm as you would expect from the claimed rating.
Almost perfect bag for couples
My wife and I bought this bag for bike camping and it is exactly what we were looking for. For the price and the weight this bag is really well constructed. Having a bag you can flip over based on the temp is a really good idea. I question the temp rating slightly. With two people in the bag you would think that it would be even warmer than what it is rated for but I'd say that's not the case. We had it on the 40 degree side and the temp was in the low 40's. We ended up flipping it over in the night. That being said, I'm glad we made this purchase. Nothing else I could find came close in terms of weight and price. The storage bag that comes with it makes it very easy to pack the bag. It goes in very easily. We purchase a 20 liter compression bag for use when we're traveling and it fit very easily. I'm pretty sure you could make it fit in a 15 liter bag without much trouble.
