Awesome Hiking/Camping Shirt!
What an amazing shirt this is! It's JUST thick enough to keep you warm and keep you cool when actually hiking. It's definitely a thicker wool shirt, but not overly heavy (like the Smartwool Anchor Flannel). Sizing wise, I would 100% size down. I own a bunch of Fjallraven products and this definitely sizes big. I have found that when Fjallraven offers XS as a sizing option, the items tend to run large (this goes for jackets and pants). I'm 5'7", 160 lbs, and an average build. I am a true medium so I purchased the medium... ended up swimming in it. Small fits perfect (as in, NOT snug; you have good space to do a 250 base layer and still feel not restricted). In other Fjallraven button downs like the Fjallglim shirt, I wear a medium, but this is definitely bigger.
Lovely ahirt but button problems
I bought this shirt for my son for Christmas, he loves the style and warmth but the buttons are pinging off which is infuriating
The perfect flannel
Top notch quality and attention to detail makes this an excellent choice for hiking, camping, or just bundling up on a crisp autumn day! It's cut for a relaxed fit and I'd say runs large. In fact, I own this in both a small and a medium and enjoy both. For reference, my dress shirt size is a 15/34. These shirts are designed to be worn over other layers and possibly even as a thin fall jacket. The medium however is definitely roomy for me. It fits easily over a sweatshirt or other layered shirts. But the small fits me perfectly as a normal flannel shirt should with plenty of sleeve length without being too tight around the mid region. The fabric is not as soft as merino wool and could be an issue for those with sensitive skin if worn without a base layer. But it's not anywhere near as scratchy as a traditional wool flannel. To me, this is the perfect flannel.
Could use more wool
I bought this shirt in a men's (I'm female). Am I correct in thinking the women's version is 65% wool -- and is at the same price level ? Overall, I like the look of this shirt -- though I find that it gets a lot of fuzz pills where there is friction. Certainly I like the shirt -- but had I realized the difference in quality (for the same price) I would have thought a little longer about the women's shirt over the men's. I'm not unhappy with the shirt -- but I would probably not buy it again -- warmth is pretty important for me and this shirt is lacking ever so slightly in the warmth department.
Poor Quality Material
Yes it's warm, but the material nowhere near justifies the price. Mine began to pill both inside and outside from new and now looks and feels like a cheap thrift store purchase. I've only worn it maybe six times for casual wear, no heavy work, and it's now not fit to be worn anywhere but the yard.
great shirt
I'm female and 6ft tall. Was looking for a longer fit and sleeves to match so went for the Men's version. No complaints at all. Had this shirt for 2 years now and it has worn in very well. Material isn't itchy or course. Details I like are the inner G-1000 reinforcements to the cuffs, hem and inside of popper fastening. The shirt is windproof and very warm, sometimes if cold enough, I'll layer it over my Bergtagen woolterry hooded baselayer. Well placed popper pockets stop anything falling out when working and the popper fastening is easy to operate with gloves on or cold hands.
XXL perfection
As comfortable as it gets. Relaxed style and fit. Retains its shape after washings. I’m 66, 6’2” and 240. So XXL is my usual. From the double snap cuffs, through the soft texture, this is well constructed and designed. Well done!
Pretty Good; Sizing a Little Weird
REI was having a pretty great Black Friday sale on Fjallraven gear so I picked up this shirt along with several others. So far I'm liking it but have a couple of things to bring attention to: 1) Another review stated that it's probably best to wear this shirt with a base layer and I agree because the wool isn't all that soft IMO. I tried it on with a short-sleeved shirt at first and the material was pretty uncomfortable in the creases of my elbows. 2) Shirts like these always run on the larger side for me (I normally wear a large) so I decided to size down and try a medium and I'm glad I did. However, the fit is still a little weird as the torso fits great and the length is perfect but the shoulders are a bit tight and the sleeves are just a tad short. I'm 6'2" and weigh 190lbs with an athletic build so maybe the broadness of my shoulders is to blame. Overall, I still really like the shirt and look forward to wearing it more.
Snaps for cold fingers
5’10 210 lbs wearing a large. I’ll happily agree the shirt fits a tad long, but somehow the sleeves not as long as the overall length. Chest is well sized for those larger in chest and shoulders. I’ve read negative reviews about the material quality, not sure I agree. It may only be 1/4 wool, but that sure helps with the durability of wear. I work long days outside and unless it’s a very cold west coast(BC) day, this shirt with a long sleeved thermal is all I need. Material takes a beating in the brush as well. However a WARNING to bearded fellas. The inside of the top snap will 100% catch your beard. I own this shirt in 4 colours and it’s happened on all 4. A wee bead of glue around the edge of the snap seems to have saved me from randomly yelping in public any further.
Longlasting Shirt
Brought one for my husband too, as mine has lasted 4 years and still going strong. He's impressed with how windproof it is and with a bergtagen woolterry base hoodie underneath that's all you need in a cold Welsh windy day. I note some previous comments about the polyester content, but buying the same shirt (albeit indifferent colours) 4 years ago - the material compostion is the same as per the labels? Anyway - we're both happy with our Canada shirts
