MINI LIGHT — Shine Bright

Own several of theLighthouse minis; Have used in hurricanes, power outages and when doing repairs. The magnet at base is helpful as is the hook on top. The legs allow it to stand alone. The size is excellent; one fits in the palm of your hand when the feet are folded. I prefer the mini with 210 lumens over the 400 lumen Lantern due to size and charge time. [ The 400 lumen Lantern has it place camping.] The mini is almost 3 times smaller than the Goal Zero Lantern. Again, great for emergencies and quick uses. The USB recharge port on the mini is great in power outages when you need to keep cell phones charged. The price is fair so I give the Mini as practical gifts to my children.

Was great until it stopped working a few months in

I really wanted to like this, ...but it started turning itself off after only about 100 hours of run time. It was nearly fully charged at the time, too. According to the specs, I shouldn't have even had to ever recharge it. My kingdom for a solar or rechargeable lantern that actually lasts. Wheres the sustainability if you're always having to buy new stuff??? I will be returning this. The search continues.

Junk, turned on by itself and wouldn’t turn off

I bought this for motorcycle camping. I’ve had a regular lighthouse for years and love it. I usually boondock and occasionally have to stealth camp. When I stealth camp I exercise light discipline. Around 1 am the mini turned on by itself and wouldn’t turn off. No matter how I twisted the control knob it just stayed on. Eventually I just wrapped it in my motorcycle scarf and placed it in my helmet. To add injury to insult, all my devices were topped up with power so I couldn’t dump power to them.

Still an excellent lantern with the design change!

First, the big question. There are TWO differences between the V1 and V2 models. The V1 model had a replaceable battery, the V2 does not. The CAPACITY of the battery in the V2 model is slightly increased over the V1 model; was 3000 mAh/11 Wh, is now 3200 mAh / 12 Wh. These are the only differences. Features remaining the same are the hanging swing-up hook, the hanging loop, the fold-down stand legs, the four rubber toes, the half/full dimmable illumination, the magnet, the mounting screw hole, the 1A charging port, and the attached self-charging cable. Second, why do I love this lantern? I did a bunch of research and gave this a shot, and have enjoyed using it immensely. It does everything we're told; and that feature set is killer in one unit. The compromise of size/capacity versus brightness is one I was willing to take on, but (and it's hard to describe "brightness" in words) if you want something SUPER bright (casting a LOT of light in all directions VERY far) this unit is not for you. I prefer (when car camping and weight is less of a factor) to take FOUR of these with me (two of each vintage, it just so happens) and illuminate strategically around the site; everyone's already got their personal headlamp, so these are for safety, ambiance and for when people forget their headlamp. Do I miss the not being able to replace the battery? Well, I didn't really own the V1 model long enough to get around to needing to. Do I miss the OPTION of being able to do that? I think I do, but (a) I'm all about (it's a character trait) keeping stuff charged-up, and (b) it looks like Goal Zero is heading in the direction of dropping the battery from their product line-up anyways.

Expendable after two years.

I bought two of these lanterns in May 2019 and by July 2021 (2.2 years) only one worked. REI only guaranteed them for one year and the manufacturer for two. I inquired about an exception considering this was the first time I used it. They said that the the internal battery had an "life expectancy" and could not be replaced (so after two years, throw the entire thing away?!!). They were willing to send me an "open box", but I am going back to lamps having replaceable batteries. This is a poorly designed product since the once its battery no longer takes a charge, the entire lantern is junk.

Nice little lantern

I haven't had the chance to use camping with the pandemic and all, but I have used it hanging out outside just to see what it's like. It definitely provided ample light for navigating around in near darkness as I set up a projector and food outdoors on my patio. It is awesomely bright at full brightness and the adjustable brightness is a nice touch. Its quite small and the battery lasts a phenomenally long time. It wasn't directly obvious to me, but to adjust the brightness just turn the dial slightly to the right or left depending if you want half or the full lantern lit.

Worked great for camp and tent

I used this for some weekend trips and an 11-day camp trip. It was perfect for my needs. It lit my camp table while I cooked and before I went to the tent. When I went in the tent (an REI 2 person deal), I hung it from the ceiling loop and just turned it to half-on. If I needed to charge, I merely plugged it into the my dual USB "cigarette" charger in the car and let it charge. I can't seeing having a better lantern than this one for one person.

Have been pleased with this lantern for years!

Just got back from a camping trip with this lantern and realized it is way past due for me to give it 5 stars in a review. We have been using this lantern for four years. The battery life is incredibly long. It is nice to be able to adjust the brightness of the lantern and the options for how to position it are all thoughtful: stand, hang or use the magnet. It feels good to use solar energy versus regular batteries while camping.

Long lasting light

First outing with lamp for ten day trip. Lamp power lasted five days initially with varying intensities and times. Used most at night and in the morning. Temperatures were high 30’s to low 60’s when in use. Light output was great! We put the lamp against a wall and used the single side option for longer battery life, and it put out plenty of light. I didn’t test the battery charging feature on this trip. Very happy with this purchase.

Great Back Up

Got this for lighting the house when PG&E shuts power for fire danger (PSPS). I got Goal Zero power stations and solar cells instead of a generator like many neighbors. This lamp has an ingenious design, is well made and is a good value.
